Duncanville Poised For Deep Run#I35HSShowdown

TRISTEN TAYLOR

Duncanville has been arguably one of the top two teams in Texas 6A basketball for the past three years. Desoto is coming off of back-to-back state championships, the Pantherettes won the previous year but peep this, they play in the same district which brings up the argument for seeding teams differently yet that ain’t gonna happen in my lifetime

What will happen is Duncanville is going to make some noise, Desoto has an overly impressive group of freshmen coming in with Power 5 (BCS) offers on the table but the Pantherettes have some new faces that place them as one of my early favorites to win it read more

Here are some of the main reasons why they will go deep

Victoria Flores-5’8 CG [2023] shooters are always a plus, especially when they can drop it from anywhere like I saw her doing in the 7th grade, which gave her #D1Lock yet her poise under pressure JUST DID IT for me. Even better, she continues to add and is one of the best SCORERS in Texas she finds ways to put the ball in the basket, court vision ain’t nothing nice either

Tristen Taylor-5’6 PG [2023] is one of the top point guards in the state, her explosiveness off the dribble on the court, her ability to throw blazing passes in traffic the length of the court, her pull-up jumper from mid to long-range, seeing the floor, controlling the tempo as well “on the ball” defense are all HUGE intangibles. Oh yeah, she scores off the dribble

Breniya Arnold- 5’10 PF [2023] has taken her game to yet another level, and falls into that “you won’t outwork me” group that goes after everything off the rim, well on the floor too. She scores around the basket, putbacks included and she showed she could defend not only inside the paint but also step outside of it and apply pressure

Tajenae Gooden-5’9 SG [2024] RED has been FIRE since day 1 and her ” you can’t teach this” ability has made her a must-see for me since elementary school I believe. When you know you’re going to get fouled, especially on the long ball and that mental concentration allows you to “stay with it” that’s special yet she’s an explosive scorer

Kaylinn Kemp-5’9 SG [2025] I love yelling KAY KAY when she was young, I do it quietly now but watching her zig-zag by defenders in the open court for lay-ups still has me SMH. The pull-up jumper in the set, the stop, and pop in transition, the body control on her finishes, and her on-the-ball defense are all rolled into one tough player that loves the pressure and delivers

Kenedi Glover-6’0 PF [2025] totally destroyed defenders as a freshman, her mentality, strength, and skillset has always grabbed my attention yet last season she was one of if not the best freshman in Texas I personally saw at her position. She’s out, for now, those dreaded 3 letters, yet I had a chance to catch up with her briefly, her spirits are high and she’ll be back and ready for the run and, just as important, she was cheering on her teammates, trust me, that’s also something you can’t teach

I wanna close with this from back in the day, traveled to Vegas to see my daughter’s team playing for the WNBA championship yet many don’t know that she too had an ACL injury
