2015 HoopAHolics Tip Sheet part 2
MYRA GORDON
The jump I get on talented players is because I actually spend the time watching them even before many reach middle school and even though some don’t like it when I say those players have “can’t miss” stamped on them, that’s fine with me because over the past 20 years every one of those players I said that were have done just that. Sarah Andrews definitely fits that mode, I was astounded the first time I saw her playing against high school players when she was in the 5th grade and you never would have known. The poise of Myra Gordon sold me on her and watching Tyler Jackson go completely off in last year’s Prime Time Nationals was definitely an eye opener. After going over the video, here is another segment on some of the standouts
2020
Sarah Andrews-5’7 guard- she’s one of those players that had “it” a young age, her ability to score against older players multiple ways sold me however what she did at HoopAHolics was simply make those around her better. Defense has also gone up, her basketball IQ is second to none and the sky is the limit for this athletic young guard
Myra Gordan-5’11 guard- talk about genes, well hers are Levis and hopefully you catch that. Mom and dad are former D1 players, I called her sister one of the top players in the country before others finally caught on and Myra G has the tools to be even more famous than that saxophone player. She is big guard that is a mismatch waiting to happen, scoring inside and out and she can handle the ball under pressure. She also rebounds well on both ends but what I liked even more is the progression of both her defense and ability to see the floor
Tyler Jackson-5’7 guard- It would be easier to list what she couldn’t do and to be honest on the floor, other than dunk I really don’t have list. I love seeing players go off at a young age and that doesn’t just mean scoring, this young lady gets after it, doesn’t mind getting on the floor, which is a lost art, but her ability to just be around the ball as well as make plays will have plenty of buzz going
Iyanna Dorsey-5’4 guard- range, ball handling under pressure and court sense, check, double and triple check but watching her over the years, she’s become more athletic and sees the floor well. That, along with not only creating her shot as well as contact and finishing has me smiling about her in high school and beyond
Alexis German-5’2 guard- flashy guard loaded with things I love in her repertoire. First of all she anticipates extremely well, that’s huge for me but watching her finish in traffic was definitely a plus. She handles the ball well, very well and two things, her reverse layups and stutter steps will keep defenses guessing
Alexis Smith- 5’0 guard- handling the ball in traffic is something small guards need to master because any coach with an ounce of BB-IQ is going to put some heat on. Well Smith’s thermostat stays on cool and her speed helps her get out of jams. She sees the floor, is mastering the floater and on top of that, showed she could knock down the long ball
2021
Peyton Andrews-5’10 forward- two things give her a huge advantage, her age and size and although I saw a glimpse of what she’ll become last season at Battle at the Hive, they’re going to be a lot more buzzing around from college coaches. She saw the floor and handled the ball well in the first session and by well she got the rim and scored multiple times but when dropped the threes in session two, I see ya PW
Aiken Semones-4’11 guard- I have just seen this young lady countless times over the past four years, it already seems like an eternity and let me say this, she was always smart on the floor and could shoot so what’s next. Well her ball handling under pressure definitely has jumped but taking the licks and scoring with contact gives her my Timex award
Tamia Flores-5’5 guard- athletic and strong, she simply knows how to get to the rim and once there make things happen either by scoring or dishing. She also showed she could shot, I’m talking mid and long range
