SEC Division Tip Sheet pt 1-Border War 2021

I love seeing next level players going against next level players, this falls into one of my saying that goes completely over the heads of many “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and I purposely saved the toughest division for last, I’m going to break states down on Prep Girls Hoops as far as All-Tournament selections, gotta give Shock coach Diaz an assist on the idea as well as putting this together and to say I had a blast would be an understatement so guess who took off

Alexsyah Goudeau-5’9 PG (Shock 2022 Black) from day 1, left a lasting impression by just bringing “IT” on both ends. She handles the ball under pressure, scores off the dribble, as well as the pull-up and, is heady, her ability to see the floor continues to impress me but that “IT” factor just grabs me because she makes those around her better, so the defense and rebounding are just the icing and candles on the cake

Josie Storey-5’10 SF (Shock 2022 Black) understanding how to not only create your shot under pressure but when to take it is also very good and it gets even better when you can knock it down. Yes, she can shoot the long-range yet the lost art of dropping the mid-range is something she also showed quite a bit of, and when you combine that with her size and length, that spells trouble for defenders. She also can attack the rim while being defended and finish after contact

Maggie Sockey-5’9 G (Shock 2022 Black) I’ve always enjoyed watching players who play “bigger” than what they are and seeing her outrebound players who stand over “the magic number” speaks volumes about her desire. Yes, she’s athletic and has “UPS” but she also is a battler as well as a finisher, this includes after contact and her defense can turn a game around

Trinity Dobbs-5’8 H (Shock 2022 Black) finding players that understand how to get theirs in the flow is always useful, especially after you check the stat sheet and see they’ve filled up, in the flow yet her athleticism, playing the passing lane as well as rebounding have always just stood out whenever I caught her but she can create her shot to attack as well as hit the jumper

Vernell Atamah-5’10 F (Heroes DJ) 2024– her DESIRE impressed me at Individual Showcase I caught her playing in a few weeks earlier so I was more than pleased to see it as she BATTLED for everything inside the paint. She also finishes strong, plays tough defense, and truly deserves the hashtag #BEAST because you will NOT outwork her

Amyia Bowie-5’6 G (Heroes DJ) creates her shot under pressure and consistently showed she could knock both the mid and long-range jumpers down. She also does a good job taking defenders off the dribble, she handles the ball under pressure and sees the floor

Heaven Hayden-5’10 F (Heroes DJ) her athleticism was on full effect as she attacked and finished after contact, played baseline to baseline defense, and rebounded on both ends of the court

Donavia Hall-5’10 SG (Heroes DJ) I knew what she was in the 6th grade, a #D1Lock just on her poise and ability to just take over a game offensively, either from the outside, attacking the rim, or finishing on the inside so she was easy yet she has added so much to her game that she appears to be doing everything effortlessly yet she’s putting in work because she has this “drive” you can’t teach

Megan Gray (attacking) Corey Rainwater (left)

Megan Gray-5’5 CG (Fusion 2022 Red-Peterson) has moves galore including the “stutta” step, okay stutter for those who don’t get my lingo yet watching her get players off-balance in both the open and half-court settings was nice, so was her attacking and finishing ad showing a pull-up jumper. She also handles the bell and sees the floor well

Corey Rainwater (Fusion 2022 Red-Peterson) good hands and footwork, nice agility, and with her mobility on the inside, she finished strongly and consistently, this included after contact. Add she rebounds on both ends, played solid defense both inside and outside of the paint, and runs the floor

Emily Robinson-5’10 SG (Fusion 2022 Red-Peterson) 2023- not only did she create her shot well in the halfcourt to take defenders off the dribble with either hand, but she also showed the jumper, and her stop and pop in transition was smooth

Mckayla Miller-6’1 PF (Gameball 2022) 2023– she’s strong and she plays strong yet her finishes are under control and powerful, contact doesn’t matter, she scored with players literally hanging on her but when you add she rebounds, on both ends and plays the passing lane, combined with her upside…

Lindsey Aday-5’8 G (Arkansas Sting 17U) created her shot under pressure and showed she could knock down the midrange yet I was equally impressed with watching her crash the boards, especially on the offensive and finish with putbacks against taller players

Brynlee Higgins-5’10 SF (Arkansas Sting 17) the way she shot the mid to long-range, combined with her size, will definitely get her some looks for the next level because “college coaches like big guards that can shoot” and although I have her listed as a SF, she falls into that SG profile as well

Addyson Brownfield (MO Phenom 17U EYC) didn’t catch a lot of this team, to say they are loaded would be an understatement as they breezed through their pool yet every time I looked up, Brownfield was showing she could drop the long ball with a hand in the face

Aliyah Craft (attacking)

Aliyah Craft-5’9 PG (Lady Thunder King) I knew she was athletic yet I’m adding ULTRA to the equation since she keeps adding something every time I catch her yet her explosiveness off the dribble is what grabbed me at their team practice, she’s under control and finishes acrobatically yet she sees the floor and shoots the mid to long-range

Kayla Dickey-5’4 PG (Lady Thunder King) 2023-I’m going out on a limb, well actually I’m not because this is one of the most underrated players in Texas and to the novice, just listen because “no one plays harder” she takes charges, plays on-ball defense as well as the passing lane yet watching her sacrifice her body for loose balls, attack and finish strongly after contact and shoot the outside shot…

Jayden Davenport-5’11 F (Lady Thunder King) 2023 I love THROWBACK players, most of you don’t know how it WAS yet I forget nothing of relevance, and seeing her go after everything off the rim, finish strongly with either hand, show good hands, and footwork not to mention attacking from the wing effortlessly, what more can I say? She plays very good defense

Olyvia Brooks-5’10 F (Lady Thunder King) 2024– the jumps she keeps making off the court are just as impressive as the ones I see her make on it. She grabbed my attention in the 7th grade and made my Tip Sheet because I said “you can’t teach FIRE and DESIRE” and say something regarding this game. Her upside is scary, trust me

Tatem Adair-5’1 PG (Dynasty 17U) size don’t matter when? when you can play and she immediately showed me she could control the tempo, handle the ball under pressure, and hit teammates with crisp passes, she did the same here and she’s a vocal leader that just goes hard from start to finish. She made the All Playmaker Team from the Big Friendly, something else will be brewing

Brookelyn Williams-5’9 SF (Dynasty 17U) she left a lasting impression when I covered Battle In The Big Friendly for Prep Girls Hoops and although I had seen her mix it up on both ends, her being “long and athletic” kept my eyes on her because she played the passing lane and defended well, nothing has changed and she took defenders with either hand and finished the same way

Noel Brown-5’11 PF (Dynasty 17U) 2021 she made the All-Tournament team at Battle In The Big Friendly and guess what, the battle didn’t end as she scored with authority on the inside, contact meant absolutely nothing and she went after rebounds with that same energy. To add a little more, her defense inside and outside of the paint was smothering
