10th Grade Division-Opening Day #NBC22
Here are some of the other standouts I caught on opening day from the 10th Grade Division, you can find more on PGH Texas
Janiya Woods) (Team Takeover Black) size, timing, frame, all key ingredients for the next level yet watching her not only score around the basket and rebound on both ends, her monster block and handling the ball coast to coast was huge
Dekeria Carter (Debs Elite Gold) athletic guard that applies “on the ball” pressure baseline to baseline yet on the flip, she brings that same energy on the offensive end as she attacks off the dribble and finishes strongly after contact
Brooke Bettis (Elevate EYG) not only is she a good shooter, but she also wants the ball down the stretch and the numerous times I’ve seen her drop clutch shots this season alone tell me a lot. Solid mid to long-range shooter, can also score off the dribble
Kamariya Ford (SBC) watched her diving on the floor for loose balls from afar, that usually gets my attention yet her baseline to baseline smothering defense had me change courts. While watching her score, elevating over defenders had me ask “what is your name”
Kasey Oliver (Gulf Coast Legacy Kelli) strong rebounder on both ends yet her sheer desire grabbed me. I love watching players go after the ball off the rim, she does that, but she also did a good job finishing around the basket, yes after contact
Shayda Fletcher (Dash Elite Niko) scored off the dribble and finished strongly but she also created her shot to do that as well as drop the jumper. Solis “on the ball” defender and played the passing lane
Achan Arop (Prodigy) long and athletic is the base and it always will be so what are her intangibles? Well, she’s around the magic number, that’s 6’0, she has good timing, she rebounds, blocks shots, and runs the floor. She also defends well and scores around the basket, good upside
Brelee Nichols (Lady Hustle 2024) long and athletic, see above, yet what she adds is a nice mix. First of all, she plays the passing lane, I love that and can handle the ball afterward but she also can drop the jumper and the pull-up in transition was sweet. She rebounds on both ends, good upside
Amirah Gray (Gulf Coast Legacy Kelli) strong finisher after using a powerful first step yet her ability to stay with it after contact and score were impressive. She also played the passing lane and did a good job defensively
Marissa Kawamura (Centex Attack ZIG) scored off the dribble with ease, with either hand but she also created her shot and dropped it from outside. She handled the ball under pressure and saw the floor well
Nava Lee White (Stephenville) long and athletic again, you know the drill she plays the passing lane well and scores off the dribble after the steal, as well as in the set. A big plus was not only dropping the 3 but after she was fouled and completed 4 point play
Jessica Ude (Lady Jammers) is yet another “long and athletic” player that brought a variety of skills to the table. Playing the passing lane requires DESIRE, she does that and she also scored off the dribble, blocked shots, and rebounded
Kennedy Simpson (Houston Lady Nets 2024) it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against and she has been doing it against high school ballers all season. As she enters her freshman season, I see her making the transition smoothly because she is battle tested. She can score both off the dribble, as well as mid to long-range but her defense, as well as rebounding, have all added to her being one of the top incoming freshmen
