Top Performers 8th Grade Division #TheLegendsTournament

Stars of tomorrow is how I put it years ago when I started looking at the up-and-coming players and since I have a KNACK for doing this, at least I’m GREAT at something, I really enjoy watching players at a young age and observing their progression on the court. Several of these players have been in front of me for at least two seasons and countless events so here’s what I saw

HOUSTON LADY NETS

Madison Mohammed is a long and athletic guard that continues to show progression. The EURO was very nice but watching her score off the dribble and showed good body control after contact. Her on-the-ball defense is very nice and she plays the passing lane

Whitney Wilson is also a long and athletic guard with solid body control on her finishes. She attacks using a deceptive first step, slight HEZ included but she also rebounds against taller players and sees the floor in the open court, as well as in the set

Ty’Asia Young is yet another athletic guard with a solid upside. Her FLOTA got her on the cover, her body control is nice but she understands how to get the defender off balance. Her court vision was nice, and so was her creating her shot and dropping the jumper

Mi’ Chaela Evans shows good timing every chance I get to catch her and when you can block shots consistently, that’s good yet she makes the offensive player alter their shot which also works. She rebounded on both ends of the court ad scored around the basket

Payton Mohammed is yet another athletic guard that uses her athleticism on both ends of the court. She scored off the dribble consistently but she also brought baseline-to-baseline pressure

Kynadie Franklin not only rebounded on both ends, she scored on putbacks and when you factor she’s, you guessed it, an athletic guard, but add UPS to the equation as she elevates over opponents

D’Aijha Lawrence closes out their athletic group, too has UPS, and watching her attack from multiple angles and defy gravity on her finishes, at times after contact was nice, and so was her defensive pressure in both the set and transition

TNBA

Amanda Rossini continues to elevate her game and she will join her sister on the PGH Texas Top 100 plus in due time because I know what’s coming. She’s heady and understands how to run a team and control the tempo yet her threading the needle in traffic keeps getting better, and so does her jumper and scoring off the dribble

Chandler Bromley uses her body on both ends, defense was nice but her scoring off the dribble and showing she could create contact at times will go a long way. Her jumper looks good and she finished strongly after the lick, body control is nice, and so is her upside

Sophia Rousse created her shot under pressure with ease yet more importantly she got her shot off with a hand in her face. She plays within herself, doesn’t force anything other than the pressure on defense, and keeps showing progression on the court

Journey Price used her frame around the basket to score but peep this, she understands something important at this stage and that’s positioning. That helped her rebound on both ends, she also ran the floor and played defense

Madison Johnson is on the verge of blowing up. She’s long and athletic which will always be the base, but she’s also strong and battles for rebounds. She scored in the pain, as well as off the dribble plus she did a good job defending in the interior

MO CITY HEAT

Soleil Carter scored off the dribble, the first step is hard to deal with, yet her athleticism played a part in that, her body control was a major factor in her finishing after contact. She has good court vision, handles the ball under pressure, and defends tightly

Ar’Janeayeah Nelson not only did she attack and finish from multiple angles, but she also showed contact didn’t matter but watching her create her shot and drop the jumper from outside while being defended tells me a lot about what’s coming

Lonnie Booker falls into that #sizedontmatter group I love to hashtag simply because she can play. Her defense was steady, and so was her ball handling and court vision but she attacked off the dribble and finished after contact
