Milum Ballers Academy #simmiecolsonclassic

I was excited when I heard from one of my former players, Rodneisha Milum, letting me know she was about to start a club tea and had a niece playing as well. For those of you who don’t know, Milum was one of the top “BIGS” in Texas when she graduated over a decade ago and went on to play at the next level. I still remember her using the drop step and scoring with multiple players hanging on her which is why I often use #THROWBACK because it reminds me of yesteryear

Well this is a new era and I was interested to see her squad, so let me say this, intensity on both ends as well as desire combined with solid skills had me pleased to catch them yet it’s a family affair as her dad, who also coached with the Houston Insider organization, as well as her brother who helped with drills as well as skills, are also on staff so here’s the rundown on their talented squad

Donneysia Jones [2024] I didn’t know what to expect from the niece, after all, she’s not around “the magic number” like her aunt, that’s 6’0, yet she immediately showed me she could go. Her explosiveness off the dribble and finishing after contact was nice, and so was her seeing the floor and showing the pull-up jumper. She saw the floor and handled the ball under pressure and speaking of pressure, applied heat defensively

Taylor Ashley [2024] Ashley was “on the ball” baseline to baseline so much that I started sweating. Let me back things up, they brought 5 players and they all brought heat but her diving on the floor for loose ball had me smiling. I also enjoyed watching her attack off the dribble as well as create her shot under pressure

Vanice Young [2025] used her athleticism well on both ends, she too understood how to play “on the ball” defense and showed quick hands to help create turnovers. She set the defender up to attack, with either hand and she showed she could get to the basket and finish

Madison Hae Hae [2025] is “long and athletic” and please remember that is the base. She did a good job attacking the rim, her deceptive first step played a part in that yet her strides are long so that also was a factor. She showed good body control to finish yet she also has good timing to block shots and on top of that, she plays the passing lane

Jolae Roberts [2026] is only a freshman yet her upside is what grabbed me more than anything. She also plays good defense, understands how to trap, and moves her feet laterally but she also has quick hands and helped create turnovers. She plays within herself and understands how to get hers “in the flow”
