Houston Summer Slam-HS National (Elite) Tip Sheet

JALENCIA PIERRE

The Houston Summer Slam top division was loaded with next-level talent and based on the feedback, several players got their foot in the door, walked completely in the door as well as locked the door, and then there were those who threw away the key after LOCKING it because “it’s a done deal” so here are some of the standouts and let’s not forget to follow me on social media, Twitter, Facebook, and The Gram all under GIRLZPREPREPORT

LEXI ALEXANDER

2022

Lexi Alexander-6’0 W/F (Austin Elite RFW) Cedar Ridge HS– has done several things including legitimizing her #D1Lock status because she’s so powerful yet versatile and when you score inside the paint with either hand and finish after contact, drop the mid to long-range or attack from anywhere on the court to finish, defend and rebound on both ends, plus her frame and agility

Alex Neimeth-5’8 G (Austin Elite RFW) Cedar Ridge HS-I have always been impressed with her scoring in the flow yet her unselfishness was noticed as well but she always seemed to make big plays. Now she continues to show she can score in droves, off the dribble, or from mid to long-range yet she comes through under pressure be it hitting big shots, assists, or defensively over and over

Jalencia Pierre-5’2 PG (Louisiana United 2022) Amite HS– took me back to yesteryear with her high flying act, explosiveness off the dribble, in-your-face defense, and scoring however and whenever she wanted and remember @sizedontmatter when you can play and she can definitely play. Her jumper is smooth, she scores acrobatically while finishing with contact and she threads the needle like a master seamstress

Jamyria Ramsey-5’4 PG (Austin Elite RFW) Weiss HS-always been a treat because of her SWB, speed with the ball, her first step, and her ability to score quickly and efficiently, she’s one of those who “scored more than 10 points in less than 2 minutes” type players but her pressure on defense and court vision may have gone unnoticed by the novices, she brings so much to the table which is almost set

Kemya Reece-5’7 G (Houston United Hoops Black 17U) Booker T Washington HS-athletic and strong, she understands how to get to the rim and score with some pretty impressive body control yet she also can drop the jumper while being defended. She loves playing defense, her “on-ball” is consistently nice

Maleigha Jackson-6’0 F (Houston United Hoops Black 17U) Berry Academy Of Technology-next level ready frame combined with agility is nice, so is her being at “the magic number” of 6’0 which virtually assures a player a shot at the next level with any type of ability, well she definitely has some and her rebounding strongly on both ends, her hands and footwork as well as finishing n with players hanging on her and her defense are all pretty darn good

CHARIS PHOENIX

Imani Rothschild 5’7 PG (Louisiana United 2022) I don’t know if she’s related to the candy empire but her game is sweet. I know the candy isn’t, stay with me because her “sticky” defense is just impressive, it creates points going the other and her athleticism is used to a tee as she can attack and finish, rebound, and let me also add she creates her shot under pressure and has unlimited range, wrap that up!

Tijanae Abbott-6’4 P (Louisiana United 2022) Madison Preparatory– long and athletic is what I call “the base” and when you combine that with 76 inches, that is what I call “the draw” and she paints pretty picture of defending, shot blocking, rebounding and running the floor yet after watching her multiple times, she is a good passer and can handle the ball, nice moves in the paint and finishes after contact

Jasmyn Jackson-6’2 PG (Houston United Chuck) Cy Creek HS-long and athletic, strides are impressive as well as timing to block, alter and deflect shots but her “total package” of making things happen on the offensive end continue to come around because she elevates over defenders and with her wing-span, she’s scoring at will inside the paint, sometimes acrobatically

Sian Phipps-6’3 P (Houston United Chuck) Cy Springs HS-from the start of freshman season to now, few posts have taken the jumps she has since I’ve been doing and that’s a score, 2 decades or just Google it and while your searching. add the drop-step because THAT is going to open even more next-level doors as you couple it with her frame. She finishes with players literally hanging on her, rebounds on both ends, runs the floor, throws the outlet

Charis Phoenix-PG (Texas Cagers White) poise grabbed my attention the first time I saw her and her ability to control the tempo and get the ball to the right teammate kept it but watching her score off the dribble or from the outside by creating her shot gave me a nice view on how complete her game was which includes going after loose balls as well as defending

Amanda Scherpereel (Texas Cagers White)-that pull-up is looking better and better as well as her creating her shot. She understands when to take it, she even showed she could come off of the screen and drop it but after seeing her ix it up and attack the rim or make the pass, I just smiled because she has kept working and it shows

ANIYAH SANFORD

2023

Aniyah Sanford-5’3 PG (Houston United 2023 Gold) Langham Creek-one of the most improved guards in Texas continues to just “wow” me whether it’s outjumping 6 footers for rebounds or scoring over them, I won’t forget how she runs a team to perfection, well she helped lead one of the best HS teams in the area to deep runs and speaking of deep, her range has also been extended, very could court vision, handles the ball in traffic, more upside

Ny’Kyiah Jeffery-5’8 G (Houston United 2023 Gold) Cy Ranch HS-I’m not ready to put a roof on her game because her ceiling is unlimited after the jumps she continues to make every month, yeah I see ya working and her desire to battle inside for rebounds, she plays the passing lane, she attacks and finishes, she also is showing she can create her shot from outside, attack and hit the pull-up jumper

Rebecca Meyer-5’11 PF (Houston United 2023 Gold) Klein Cain HS-first impression left a lasting impression because she’s heady, she plays within herself and she scored in the flow yet as the event progressed, she also showed she was a tough rebounder and defender and could score form the wing under pressure. She also hit the short jumper and even played the passing lane

Erin Lloyd-5’4 G (Houston United 2023 Gold) Langham Creek HS– she’s on the verge of being beyond just a “good defender” to something you rarely see. I love how she is anticipating the trap, she’s around the ball, and showing tenacity creates turnover that leads to baskets and I don’t know how good your math is but that is a good equation. She also attacks and finishes, midrange is looking good as well

Avari Berry-5’6 PG (Austin Elite RFW) Pflugerville-been watching her for what seems like forever and mannerisms grabbed me before she was in middle school as nothing rattled her so now, nothing has changed other than she’s grown, she can drop NBA threes or attack off the dribble yet her blazing passes in traffic the length of the court to set up teammates for easy baskets continue to impress

Janae Tucker-5’7 CG (Houston United 2022 Chuck) she’s another player I caught early and I knew she was going to create some problems, search bars are there for a reason, I don’t fabricate yet her game is from a different fabric, see what I did. Lok, she’s heady and stays under control, she is a shooter that can facilitate, a scorer that understands how to make teammates relevant, and her upside is still untouched

Deniya Thornton -5’11 SG (Louisiana United 2023 Gold) long and athletic is the base, even when you cross state lines and watching her just show me a lot in a short amount of time made me realize a lot of things. The pull-up jumper, mid to very long range, the attacking, and finishing acrobatically after contact did it for me but her ballhandling and seeing the floor going full speed just dropped the mic

Alissa O’Dell-6’0 PF (Louisiana United 2023 Gold) also “long and athletic” yet can overpower defenders on either end as well as create her shot. The pull-up jumper is nice, it’s nice in transition as well yet she can elevate from a standing position and drop it while being defended that ain’t easy, and when add she sees the floor well…

GWENDLYN MCGREW

2024

Joemoriah Bob-5’5 G (Houston United Hoops Black 17U) Sterling HS-I’m really enjoying her progression, she’s been playing up all season and the bumps haven’t been rough as she continues to expand her game. Good court vision, nice first step and understands how to get to the rim and finish or dish yet she also handles the ball well and can drop the outside shot

Vernell Atamah-6’1 PF (UHE 17U Elite)– she was so impressive in Arkansas at Border War 2021 and guess what, nothing has changed. I pride myself on what I say and what I say comes from what I see, so “you won’t outwork her” “she battles against taller players for rebounds” ” she fives on the floor for loose balls” all things which are #THROBACK and can be taught yet her powerful finishes combined with everything else gets her added to PGH Texas

Melinda Winston (Houston Defenders 15U GUAA) -toned up her body and game before starting high school and hasn’t looked back. She finishes strongly off the dribble as well as on putbacks, yeah she’s a #BEAST on the boards, both ends I might add yet her sum is yet to be determined other than #D1Lock as her progression will determine how high she goes

Ma’Riya Vincent (Houston Defenders 15U GUAA)-long and athletic is the base, it’s all about repetition, the more you see it, the more you’ll get it, you know what, scratch that because I’ve said things 20 years that people still don’t get, on and off the court but get this, she is on the verge of doing something few can do and that’s “control a game form both ends” and part of that is her ability to play multiple positions

Gwendlyn McGrew (Houston Defenders 15U GUAA) -speaking of playing multiple positions, she did a good job at the 4/5 to open her HS career yet a 1 and a 2, and a 3 is just one, well many of the reasons I have her as the top prospect in the state, no matter what else says or thinks, #thereisnome and petty agendas nor invisible platforms you hear about, if you can PLAY you can PLAY and she can play as she stands around the magic number, pay attention class, that’s 6 feet which is about how far BTA her range is, I am so smooth yet she is smoother on the court, picture above shows one of countless acrobatic finishes

ANIYAH FOY

2025

Arionna Patterson-5’10 (Louisiana United 2025) long and athletic, she, wait very athletic and watching her blow by defenders in the open court either zig-zagging or showing a COP, not the law, “change of pace” may not get her a ticket in whatever parish she’s from but it will get her a next -level ticket but that isn’t all she does, her acrobatic finishes, a pull-up jumper and playing the passing lane all big pluses

Shaila Forman-5’8 PG (Louisiana United 2025) attacks off the dribble, with either hand and finishes the same way, with either hand yet her ball-handling in the open court, her seeing the floor and making good decisions under pressure all were nice, and then she dropped the pull-up jumper, the very good upside is ahead

Taelyn Taylor-5’6 PG (Louisiana United 2025) strong defense at the guard spot is always good, when you add rebounding it gets better yet she understands how to do many of the simple things that become big, she attacks and finishes, she also finished on putbacks and she can handle the ball under pressure, in the half and open court

Aniyah Foy (Houston Defenders 15U GUAA) not only is she one of the top incoming freshmen in Texas and a #BCSLock, she’s also one of the top 2025 players no matter what PLATFORM she’s on, but she’s also long athletic, she glides to the rim for baskets, can create her shot under pressure, drop the mid to long-range and she rebounds, defends and plays the passing lane
