Simpson’s Star Keeps Rising
MIRANDA SIMPSON
The Tyrone Johnson Showcase Rosewood Division winner, Austin Elite Grey, showed what I already knew; they have more than just the players from “The Temple of Doom”. Alyssa Jones, Ketara Chapel and Tyesha Taylor are D1 players, no doubt about that however it seems like every time I see this squad play, new stars show they are capable as well. Troi Swain is another 2014 player colleges shouldn’t be sleeping on and she and Taylor’s will form a solid nucleus to keep them at the top of the club teams next year.
The biggest surprise was Miranda Simpson, I know I can always get a fair and unbiased scouting report from by good friends from Austin Elite but this kid really has something going for her. I spoke briefly to her mom Patricia about how well she was doing and she responded that Miranda was a very hard worker who practiced every chance she got.
Many have said she’s the best pure shooter in Central Texas, I asked her dad, Scott Simpson about that but he tried to be modest but did admit she was one of the state’s top three point shooters. Well after watching her up close and personal, there is no reason for me to doubt any of that as she put on a shooting exhibition.
I had a chance to watch some of her highlight videos as I was driving home and again when I got home to make sure, but there was no need to. Catch and shoot, yes, take you off the dribble, check, sees the floor, no doubt. Miranda was so impressive that she is the new highlight video star for GPR.
The Rosewood open division pool A featured a great battle with 3 teams tying for 1st with a 2-1 record: Austin Elite Black, Houston Insiders and DFW Marques Jackson. DFW-MJ won the toss and came in 2nd , Insiders defeated one of the Houston Elite teams for 3rd and Austin Elite Black beat Austin Glory for 5th. Here are the results and remember, more to come.
