Duncanville Does It Again
AUSTIN, TX–I called Duncanville the best team I had seen in the state and after their 64-40 win over Cy Falls nothing has changed. The first time these two teams met back in the Texas Invitational, I felt Cy Falls could possibly pull off a victory if they came out and played with the same intensity Duncanville brings. The problem is that there are few teams that bring the heat from every position like the Lady Pantherettes off the top. Carol Willie started off strong on both ends following a Loryn Goodwin coast to coast basket and I’m thinking here we go. I was right up to a point as Duncanville had players scoring from every position except Empress Davenport, their leader and best player. I’ve often said the mark of a truly great player doesn’t always show up in the box score and even though Ariel Atkins and Morgan Bolton had 6 points each in the opening quarter, Davenport’s presence was felt as they led 14-9 after one. The highlight of the quarter was when Bolton spun in the lane and finished with her opposite hand and that seemed to take a lot of steam out of the Eagles.
TASIA FORMAN
Cy Falls was then outscored 21-2 in the second quarter and for all practical purposes this game was over at the half. Duncanville is not going to let you come back from 24 down, that’s why it’s important to play as they play off the top. The Eagle’s shot under 23% for the half while missing all 8 three point attempts and only 31% for the game. Other than Goodwin, the Eagle’s offense just couldn’t get going and at one point Goodwin had 19 of their 23 points while Duncanville was getting points from everyone and even though both teams scored 29 points the second half, this was a different Duncanville ball club than the one Cy Falls faced in the Texas Invitational. Goodwin led Cy Falls with 19 points while Atkins and Bolton were high scorers for Duncanville followed by Tasia Forman with 12 points and 4 steals. Davenport who didn’t score her first bucket until almost the two minute mark in the first half finished with 8 points 3 steals and led them with 6 assists
ARIEL ATKINS
Cy Falls (37-3) has nothing to be ashamed of and as I told several players from different teams on the evening, just making it t Austin is something many great players never get a chance to do. Their two year record of (75-5) shows what type of firepower they had and this special group of seniors can go out with their heads held high as the Eagles landed where no other Cy Falls team ever did
