Sophomores Turner & McCarty Elevate Teams
Brianna Turner and Brooke McCarty are simply two of the best players in the country. I’ve watched Brianna develop since she I guess in the sixth grade when some accused me of recruiting her and in retrospect I probably should have because she has continued to work on her game and elevate it to elite status. She also joins Chiney Ogwumike and Court Williams as 6’2 players from the area that could play 4 or 5 positions on the court. McCarty had “IT” when I first saw her I guess in the fifth grade and watching a young lady with this much poise running the point let me know that she was going to be a legitimate player as well which is why I tagged her “The Chosen One”. Not only are these two sophomores great players, they are also major keys to their teams going deep in the playoffs.
Turner, the No.1 player on my GPR Class of 2014 can score from just about every spot on the floor, not to mention being a rebounding and shot blocking machine. Manvel made it to the area R3-4A Final 4 without her last season and I see no reason why that can’t be repeated and then some. McCarty’s Clear Springs team also reached the Final 4 in Region 3 on the 5A side and she is the glue that holds everyone together. Whether it’s getting the ball to the right person or taking the game over herself, my No. 2 player for 2014 has intangibles few players that have come through here had. The main thing about both of these young ladies is they think team first and trust me, both could probably score 30 plus just about any time they wanted to. It appears both will lead their teams to district titles in Part 2 of the season but we all know that the only part that matters is Part 3 and that’s the playoffs
