Houston’s Talent Keeps Coming
I remember back in 2004 bragging on message boards about the talented players throughout Texas, especially Houston and how they didn’t get the recognition they deserved. Many considered me an overzealous dad that was off his rockers, along with other things I choose not to write, but as I sit back and smile knowing how right I was, the nation has taken notice with the numerous Top 100 players from Texas, many of whom were named to McDonalds, WBCA, Parade or some other “All American” team. Last season Texas A&M did the unthinkable and won it’s first Women’s NCAA National Championship with 40% of their starting lineup, Sydney Colson and Adoara Elonu, coming from Houston and half of the team from Texas.
2008 Nneka #2 and 2010 Chiney Ogwumike #1 have emerged as one of, if not the best sister acts the game has ever seen while Brittney Griner and Kelsey Bone, the #1 and #2 players respectively from 2009 class, get to go head to head for at least one season as Texas A&M has decided to leave the Big 12. This means that for at least the next three seasons, a player from Houston will be on a team that is among the favorites to win it all. The talent doesn’t end there as Courtney Williams, a consensus Top 10 pick for 2012, should be a shoe in for the for McDonalds All American game. 2013 Christen Inman has received a lot of publicity this season and her stock rose tremendously across the country, while in 2014 there’s a strong possibility Houston will have another set of players, Briana Taylor and Brooke McCarty, that finish ranked in the Top 10.
