Eagles Soar To Avoid Upset
I don’t know if the old ticker can take it anymore this season. After watching one of the most exciting games last night in which Clear Springs pressed their way to a victory over Hightower, I saw an equally impressive game that had Katy Taylor losing to Cy Falls 73-61.
I arrived at halftime and Taylor was up 35-33, Jada Roberts and Amira Jenkins combined for 25 of those points. Macy Moore appeared to be on fire for Falls with 12 in the first half and the second half started with a Carol Willie put back to tie the score at 35. Amanda Jungwirth caught fire in the third quarter scoring 7 of her 13 points, while Roberts two threes had it looking as if they were about to open it up, but a three by Moore and a free throw by Willie cut the lead to 1, which is how the third quarter ended with Taylor still up 56-55.
Last Thursday, Cy Falls beat Westside on Kit Metoyer’s birthday, tonight the birthday girl was Sedalia Ellis as she went on a rampage in the fourth quarter, scoring 8 points, 2 steals and two assists, one from almost at half-court to a back-dooring Shernise Robertson as those two combined for 12 of the teams 18 fourth quarter points while holding Taylor to 5 points.
After the game, I caught up with birthday girl and Moore and asked their thoughts. Ellis said she was relieved it was over and both young ladies had nothing but well deserved praise for the Mustangs who had an amazing season. Senior Jungwirth was the key to this team’s success over the past few seasons and I will miss watching this exciting young lady. I’ve been told Taylor has some dynamite “youngtas” coming up and they will be in the mix next season. To go along with Jungwirth’s 13, Roberts led the Mustangs with 19 points while Jenkins scored 12 and Logan Johnson added 11. Moore led all scorers with 21, followed by Ellis with 13 and Larissa Scott with 11.
It doesn’t get any easier for Falls as they face North Shore on Friday night to see who will meet the winner of the Elsik vs Clear Springs match-up. Ellis also added “This game is over, it’s time to get back in the gym and work”. Spoken like a true player on her birthday.
