Talented 2018 group keep District 17 hot
TIA TOLBERT (CY SPRINGS)
HOUSTON, Texas- Over the last few seasons, District 17 has been one of if not the toughest district in the Greater Houston area and it appears that with several talented 2018 players, nothing will be changing any time soon. Several freshmen stepped in and made their presence felt right off the bat by not only starting but creating problems on the floor for opposing teams almost immediately. Sierra Fuller (Cy Lakes) Desiree White (Langham Creek) and Tia Tolbert (Cy Springs) all showed the ability to be impact players as their teams flirted around with the playoffs. Fuller, one of the top long ball threats in her class, White, long and athletic with the ability to get wherever she wants whenever she wants and Tolbert, definitely one of the state’s top scorers, all elevated their games over the summer and with a year of varsity already under their belt, even bigger things are ahead
JoAnne Taylor (Cy Falls) simply went off right after the opening tip of the season and never looked back. That pull-up is a monster and what’s even scarier is her ability to relentlessly attack the basket and score with players hanging on her. D’Asia Collins (Cy Ranch) is simply from another planet as she came in and made the adjustment at the one, you know, where the game starts, and immediately showed she belonged. You can’t teach poise or BB-IQ, she simply has “it” but when you talk about players with the “it” factor, look no further than 6’3 Catherine Reece (Cy Woods). How good is she? Well she nails the midrange with ease, can score in the paint, rebounds on both ends, runs the floor and started on the state champion team; oh she’s 75 inches tall
