2015 TJS Tip Sheet

2015 Marie Benson

MARIE BENSON (WACO LADY PANTHERS)

This was the first Tyrone Johnson Showcase I missed in like forever due to a scheduling conflict however Devin Gibson was on hand to cover the event Gibson – current Pro player for Belgium Kangoeroes and former UTSA and Cy Falls HS (Houston) star saw plenty of talented players and here are some that stood out

Deja Kelly (South Texas Hoyas) – UT commit from 2020 class. She is what we call a complete player. Can do it all.  She still learning and growing but has high IQ and can raise her game when asked to.  Great slasher and can finish with a variety of moves. Always worth the price of admission.

Nalani Burton (Katy Rebels 2020 Howe) Pure point guard who make her team go. Creates turnovers with her defensive anticipation and her decision making in the open court is flawless.  What a PG should be. Will definitely be a player to watch over the years.

Emery Herman (Fury 2018) Must see basketball. Very fundamental. Very skilled as a guard. Plays good defensive pressure and at 5’11 has a great size. Can showed her skill set in rebounding the ball, pushing it up court and dishing for 2.  Can play multiple positions but will probably settle at 2 guard.

Abby Holland (Austin Elite RFW) 5’11 stretch forward that showed ability to hit the 3 and attack the glass throughout the weekend. Heady and steady. Constantly moving without the ball, she has a great feel for the game.  Need a player to go get a bucket, she can get that done.

Diamond Caro (Mass Pro) Scorer’s mentality and gets it done. Can score from all areas of the court. Great penetrator. Easily the most aggressive player on both ends of the floor.  Plays with a lot of heart.  Needs to improve her ball-handling some and will be a BCS recruit.

Tija Hawkins (Austin Elite RFW) Great leaping ability. Athletically very gifted and her length allows her to shoot over a lot of defenders.  Her mid range jumper, which is a lost art in today’s basketball, has improved since March and is automatic.

Donajia Buirst (Austin Elite Black) More of a traditional post and her game screams grit and toughness. Her strength and athleticism were unmatched throughout the tournament.  The energy she brings is infectious and rallies her team in games. Great attitude.

Jasmine Atobajeaun (Dynasty – Johnson)  Defense and energy. She is a coach’s favourite player.  Not a minute goes by that she isn’t giving her all on the court. Workhorse sums up her entire game. Stat sheet stuffer. Has great strength and gets to every loose ball.

Victoria Blankenship (Corpus Christi Havoc) – Whoa she plays hard and plays well.  Good post presence and uses body well.  Played against bigger post players and never backed down or away.  Creative around the basket with old school game.  Always made presence felt. Physical player.

Marie Benson (Waco Lady Panthers) College body, versatile game. Played multiple position through ut but lived in the paint.  Good pull ups and forays to the basket.  Physical player that gives as much as she gets.

Destiny Winkfield (Fort Worth Lady Hornets) – Fastest player in entire tournament from end to end.  PG with bounds of energy and bounce. Impressed with 3 pt range and when crowded would attack hole with floaters.  Took all the big shots and made all the big shots. Plays bigger than statue.

Kimberly Nwaneri (Austin Elite TTR) Catches the eye with her high energy level.  Competes are both ends, for loose balls and for extra possessions. This 2018 has a solid frame and when her skill set catches up with her effort level we are looking at a D1 wing.  Heard it here 1st

Lyssa Smith (SA Finest White) Long, athletic and did I mention long. Great 4 player with 3 potential no doubt. Runs extremely well and good at blocking shots around the basket. 2018 kid that will be making plenty of noise in SA next season.

Twynae Fletcher (Texas Elite 832) Can hit the 3 with ease. Scorer’s mindset. Lead her team offensive attack each game. Seem to have an understanding of what her coach wanted and was an extension.
