#4040JohnLucas Out of StateTip Sheet
MAYA DODSON
THE WOODLANDS, Texas- For those who don’t get out much or who haven’t actually been on the circuit, events like this can be an eye opener both for players and parents because no matter how good someone thinks they are, a couple of my sayings will always be true and one is that “Talent is everywhere” and the other that I say over and over and over “It’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and with several next level players including BCS type from all across the country performing at the John Lucas 40/40 Combine. With close to 100 young ladies from all over the country, here’s another Tip Sheet on a few out of state ballers that caught my eye. Honorable mention goes to 5’10 Sydney Archie(2017) who is a young lady I’ve seen before and knows she can go and go and go
2016
Jatavia Tarpley-6’2 wing-Tallahassee, FL (University Christian) Another long and athletic player that could score and defend however what separated her is the way she scored inside, multiple ways and the separation got wider when I saw her dropping mid and long range baskets with ease
Erin Whalen-6’1 forward/guard-Charlotte, NC (Provident Day School) She was blistering the nets on opening day and continued the trend on day 2. Went through the skills well which is what initially caught my eye but consistent shooting was huge
Shanell Atkins-6’0 forward-Cooper City, FL (St. Thomas Aquinas) I love watching players that play even bigger than what they are and with her body, she was a terror down low. She also reads the floor and made numerous steals for C2C baskets throughout the event
2017
Maya Dodson-5’11 guard/wing-Tallahassee, FL (St. Francis HS) Long and athletic is always a plus when you’re almost 6’0 and it virtually assures you of playing somewhere but Dodson’s athleticism is through the roof. Moves well with and without the ball, can score and defend
Chanisse Lewis-5’7 guard-Miami, FL (Miami Country Day School) Not is only is she fast with the ball, she can go for a steal, miss it and recover. That in itself impressed me until I saw her shoot and I’m talking about with range and on the pull-up
Rennia Davis-6’2 post-Tallahassee, FL (Ribault HS) Anticipates extremely well and her length created plenty of problems on defense. Very athletic and showed she could face the basket and score
Cierra Cudup-5’7 guard-Highland, VA (Highland HS) Add her to the speedy guard list but Cudup simply cut-up as she not only can score from the outside, she’s a nightmare to defend and her acrobatic shots kept me focused on “what’s next”
2018
Arianna Abdulmassih-6’0 guard-San Francisco, CA (Covenant of the Sacred Heart) Big guards that can stroke it like this young lady are always hot commodities and when you throw in she can create off the dribble, smoking hot certainly fits
2019
Zoe Young-5’8 guard-Urbundale, IA (Indian Hills Junior High) One of the youngest players in attendance however played like one of the oldest, shall I stop now? Young can score, defend and has the mindset of “you can’t stop me” and at her age and with her upside, that’s a good one to have
