CY WON’T FALL
Several big games were on hand this evening including Atascocita traveling to the Woodlands and losing 54-47, Curtyce Knox was injured in the first quarter and didn’t return. Memorial beats Cinco Ranch at home and Elsik beats Eisenhower, all of those involve teams that I think will finish first or second in their districts. The game I chose to cover was Cy Falls at Cy Fair and there were a number of reasons why. Cy Fair is the defending state champion, they have won their district at least five years in a row and they haven’t lost a district in at least five years. Cy Falls on the other hand is the number one team in the state and if you recall I said earlier this was the team to beat because Cy Fair needs offense from someone other than Cassie Peoples.
.
The game started off ugly in more ways than one and it escalated to horrific when Peoples was called for her third foul and had to go to the bench, two were questionable to say the least. I want to see the players play and every time I watch Peoples, she shows me something new. Anyway, Falls jumped out to a 10-4 lead, before a Peoples three made it to 10-7. The first quarter closed 13-9 and Peoples was forced to come back with some magic as she scored on an array of shots including a 17 foot floater lofting it over the hands of a Falls defender, then she hit a free throw and they were down by one, however that’s as close as they would get. Sedalia Ellis went “Coast to Coast” twice as the half ended 24-19 with Peoples scoring 10 for Cy Fair, while Larissa Scott had 8 and Ellis 6 for the Eagles. As I look at my notes, I wrote “NO BOMB SQUAD”.
I guess someone else saw my notes because this game got of hand after Peoples closed the gap at 28-24. Two more “Coast to Coast” lay-ups by Ellis, topped off by threes from Kit Metoyer and Macy Moore. Then Moore dropped back to back threes, the second one she was fouled on all of the sudden it was 47-31. Cy Falls won the game 66-44 and they had four players in double figures. Moore scored 14, Carol Willie 13, Scott 12 and Ellis 10. Peoples led all scorers with 17 for the Bobcats and was simply amazing, however it’s ironic their streak ends a night after Yates 66 in a row was stopped. Cy Falls continues to improve and to be honest with you, no other team in the area has all of the weapons they have, it’s just my opinion, but I’m no Guru. Wait, I am!
