CANAI McPHERSON (TEAM MOTIVATE)

MANSFIELD, TEXAS- One of the hashtags I made up and use regularly is #talentiseverywhere and that’s providing you know what you’re looking at and I’ve looked at enough and been able to actually comprehend what I’m looking at for many years and there were definitely plenty of players at the YBOA Texas State Championship that will or that are definitely good enough to play at the next level so I’m going to drop some of the standouts I saw in HS Division as well as 7th Grade, providing I actually know their names and I’ll drop the younger ones later

SHAMMARIA STEWART (DC QUEENS SELECT)

2019

Shammaria Stewart-guard (DC Queens Select) quick release and catch and shoot continues to get better and when you add that to what she already brought to the table, range, mid and long, and a powerful body that can finish with contact, things seem to fall into place as well as the basket

Tionna Perkins-post (High 5 Elite) she’s listed as 6’4 and she definitely has a college ready body but when you can run the floor, catch the ball and finish and that, combined with height, will get you plenty of looks. She rebounds on both ends and can play defense in the paint and alter shots

Jada Morris-guard (DFW Hornets) very good first step enables her to get to the basket or stop and pop for the midrange. Good speed, defends baseline to baseline and does something I love to see players do, she plays the passing lane and that gives her easy baskets going the other way

2020

Tierra Goosby-post (MI-3) long and athletic, rebounds on both ends of the floor, runs the floor, finishes with contact and has good timing which lets her change or block shots over and ove because she keeps coming at you

SYDNEY WHETSTONE (HI 5)

2021

Arielle Rosborough-guard (Team Motivate 10th Grade) continues to expand her game, you just won’t outwork her inside as she elevates off the ground and outrebounds taller opponents but she finishes with contact, mid and long range is clicking and she defends inside, outside , wherever

Canai McPherson –guard (Team Motivate 9th Grade) her explosiveness off the dribble caught my attention a few weeks ago however that pull-up is something to see and when she gets going ,whether it’s mid or long range, it’s accurate. Nice body control and finishes strong, good handle and she defends

2022

Sydney Whetstone-guard (High 5 9th Grade) athleticism galore runs through this young lady and at times it appeared she was everywhere. Attacks the basket from every angle on the court, gets by defenders nicely and doing this playing up was another plus. She defends, plays passing lane and can score from outside

Dazia Waites-guard (Flight Elite) very athletic, can defend baseline to baseline, anticipates plays and passes which leads to baskets but her stop and pop on a dime gives her an added advantage because she can set defenders up nicely to go by them but her upside is nowhere near reached full potential

'18 YBOA Mitchell

KENZIE MITCHELL (DC QUEENS 2023 PLATINUM)

2023

Kenzie Mitchell –guard (DC Queens 2023 Platinum) very high BB-IQ and also passionate about the game but she gets it and more importantly gives it because when it’s crunch time, she wants the ball and delivers. Creates nicely under pressure, hits mid and long range and attacks the basket and finishes with contact

Layla Conley-guard (SA Lady Hoops 2023) long and athletic are important but under control gives her plenty of options now and with everything else she brings to the table, later as well. Nice pull-up with defenders hanging on her and can finish strong with contact, huge upside

Seniya DeWater (Team Motivate 7th Grade) falls into the “never takes a play off” category and at this stage, you just don’t know how important that is. She’s athletic and has speed, attacks nicely and can elevate for rebounds, blocks or a nice jumper but the tools she continues to show will have her in the mix

2024

Neenah George –guard (NMLA 2024) physicality does not deter her one bit, in fact she relishes it and when you’re this young and you can handle that and not be fazed, that says a lot but her game says even more as her ability to finish multiple ways not to mention she sees the floor and threads the needle plus her no look is one of the best at this age I’ve seen
