Williams And Gilbert True Warriors
If I wore a hat I would take it off to both North Shore and Hightower who I didn’t think would have a chance to make it to the regional Final 4, yet here they are ready to face off against each other in Elite 8 assuring one of them a return trip to a place they have been before. Major blows to both clubs, Hightower’s Taylor Gilbert and North Shore’s Monique Bedford both had season ending injuries and this told me neither had a chance to make it to Austin even though I had both picked as possibilities in the pre-season. To top that off, they both lost to teams they that shouldn’t have in their districts which positioned them to be in the fire before the stove got heated up all the way, I made that one up on the fly, this is also known as the other side of the bracket.
They have done what matters the most, when it counts the most, and that is remarkable to say the least because Part 3 is when you lay all of the chips on the table. These young ladies will join a list of so many great players from our area who did what they needed to do, when they had to do it and that’s put their teams on their backs. Although they already had my respect as players, let me also add that I’m proud of the way they’ve handled their business the way they did throughout adversity. Even as times appeared bleak during certain points of the season, they haven’t given up on themselves, their coaches and most importantly, their teammates because no one can do it alone. Making it to the Elite 8 is a remarkable accomplishment especially when you consider the great teams who have done it before you and even though one of them will lose next week, you will continue to hear their names for a very long time.
