Westfield Stars Shining In Club Season

Westfield Kylah Jones

KYLAH JONES

Things have not gone as smoothly as I imagined at Westfield since Nay Carter and company graduated back in 2009. The first time I saw 2013 Kylah Jones was that same year and I knew she was going to be a player because she was talented even then and I saw plenty of upside. There was simply something about her and it wasn’t just because I would go to the gym and see her on the court playing against older guys, she just simply had a knack about herself that showed by the work she constantly was putting in to improve her game. With that being said, she is probably one of the most underrated players in the city even though she has shown she can be a defensive stopper against some area players with bigger names and it doesn’t stop there as the offense has come around. Expect Jones to continue to blow up over the summer and beyond, she’s under the radar but won’t be for long.

Westfield Jade Rayford

JADE RAYFORD

It doesn’t stop there as the same could be said for a number of Westfield players who are somewhat underrated but watching several of them play over the club season for the Fastbreakers tells me their high school team may pull off some surprises. Jade Rayford will enter her junior year as a much improved hard-nosed player who sees the floor and attacks it relentlessly; she threw a no look pass on the money between three defenders from thirty feet that had the crowd going.

 Westfield Lauren Rhodes

LAUREN RHODES

Speaking of going, 2013 Lauren Rhodes has turned into a three point specialist in every game I’ve seen her play and the few I’ve seen her miss have been right there. Diamond Ford graduated from Hightower and went is now starring at Texas State and here’s the irony, that Ford graduated in 2009, the same year Carter graduated from Westfield and it’s also the same year yet another Diamond Ford entered the scene with Jones. I’m expecting this Diamond to sparkle and dazzle as she will be asked to do a number of things with the graduation of Marquisha Lewis but at 5’10 with a college ready body and the ability to play three positions, rest assured this Ford won’t be running out of gas
