Top Guards #DuelStatesAllStarGames 8th Grade Division pt 2

KAYLA KING

Guards galore throughout the Duel States All-Star games, many already showing potential next-level skills, many already being tagged #D1Lock by me but the thing you have to realize is to keep working because in the blink of an eye, things can change so here is another talented group of guards that brought it numerous times when I was watching

Sydnee Jones (ATL Dream) her quick release looked familiar yet I hadn’t seen her in over a season but she was definitely showing a variety of pluses like her SWB, speed with ball, as well as that mid to long-range but she also did a good job attacking the rim and showing body control on the finishes, many times after contact. The icing on the cake was playing the passing lane

Sarahi Beltran (ATL Dream) her upside really looks great because of a couple of things that shot out, mainly her shooting, impressive range especially while being defended is always a plus but she also did a good job attacking the rim and finishing. Good ballhandling under pressure, understands how to score in the flow

Addisyn Jones (ATL Dream) brought some hot defense baseline to baseline, which’s always good yet what’s even better is that she definitely uses her athleticism well and watching her create her shot in the half-court set and attacking the rim from multiple angles, and finishing after contact are very good signs

T’ionna Johnson (Fever) that lost art of “following your shot” really took me back as she understood the importance of doing that, plus she’s athletic, attacks the basket strongly, and did a good job rebounding, on both ends of the court as well as applying good pressure on the defensive end. Good upside

Tynia Minnitt (LA Sparks) heady guard that just controls the tempo so well, at this stage that is pretty good because she can push it in transition and hit teammates on the money and she can slow the game down but she can also score, off the dribble or from outside, she does that by creating her shot, under pressure

MATAYA HALL (attacking) RUKE OGBEVIRE (defending)

Kayla King (LA Sparks) might have the name wrong but I have the game right and that first step created many problems trying to stay in front of her but her athleticism gives her options other than attacking the rim, she also can drop the midrange but she also understands positioning, rebounded against taller players on both ends

Aniyah Johnson (LA Sparks) uses her athleticism nicely, loved her first step, which sets the defender up because it’s explosive and watching her attack and finish after contact over and over was a good sign. She rebounds against taller players and also played some pretty tough defense but her upside is really good

Halyn Browning (LV Aces) the “HEZ” was in full effect, well affect as she had defenders leaning and that gave her options to show the mid to long-range, her pull-up jumper is smooth, or attack off the dribble and seeing her do a couple of other things, handle the ball under pressure going coast to coast and playing the passing lane were huge

Mataya Hall (Lynx) uses her body well attacking the basket and understands something very important, how to create contact which goes well with her finishing after contact. She also can create her shot while being defended and showed a nice pull-up jumper from midrange while being defended as well as dropped some long balls

MARIAH HILL

Mariah Hill (Mystics) SWB, yep, speed with ball and under control, and she also played the passing lane which led to numerous baskets going the other way but she’s athletic and can attack in the half-court, with power and finish strong. She knocked down some jumpers, mid to long-range and she plays tough defense

Sophia Fisher (Mystics) I loved seeing the young players creating their shots and she was one of the best because once she did it, she even had me guessing because the mid to long-range is so smooth, the shot is fluid and she gets it off quickly yet that first step is pretty quick as well and she attacked and finished also

Aziah Farrier (Mystics) long and athletic, let me refresh those who haven’t seen this but that’s the base for many college coaches and with her base, she adds a pull-up jumper from mid-range, she also showed she could “catch and shoot” but she attacks well and her long strides get her to the rim with ease as she finishes but she also has that “floata” working

Amina Diallo (Storm) also long and athletic, took defenders at WILL and showed no GRACE as I play on a horrible reboot, she just is showing signs of being a nightmare to defend/ She elevates with ease over defenders for the pull-up yet her body control at times appears to defy gravity so add playing the passing lane as well as defending and her upside is scary
