The Peoples Choice

For as long as I can remember, Houston has always had great guards that could just come in and take over games and give their teams a fighting chance to win, no matter who they faced. From the Lindsey Harding and Nina Norman era, Takia Starks, Carla Cortigo and Ebony Mangum continuing the trend, then Sydney Colson and now AJ Alix, add another name to the list, Cassie Peoples. Cassie came to Houston already known on the National scene as a player and even though sometimes the hoopla isn’t what it seems once you’ve seen the player live and in living color, she has always had my stamp of approval as “REAL DEAL”

Cy Fair has gone to state four straight years, primarily because they had two of, if not the two best players to come out of Houston, Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike. This year, Cy Fair doesn’t have the dominant post that you can count on for 20/20 almost every night, however they have a spectacular player whose stroke is a work of art. She is an offensive machine that finds ways to score and that is a rarity. Leading her team to an unexpected upset of Katy Taylor in the Katy Tournament shows what this kid is capable of doing and if you had a chance to see her drop 35 against North Shore in the semi-finals of the same tournament, you know exactly what I’m talking about,

I was told by a Cy Fair parent earlier this year not to count them out because there are no Ogwumike’s and the way the season has shaped up, anyone can get hot and make a run, so I agree, Cy Fair could conceivably do some damage, but they need offense from somewhere else. I am sure Coach G can’t wait to see Peoples in a Longhorn uniform where I am sure she will continue to show how special she really is.
