DON’T LET THE JONESES LOOSE
I’ve mentioned before that there is nothing I enjoy more than to watch exciting basketball games and I was not disappointed watching two Top 10 teams go at it. Irving Macarthur led by Alexis Jones came in ranked #3 in the state, while Desoto was #9 and led by another Jones, Jordan. I’ve mentioned the amazing feats of Alexis and I know Jordan was highly regarded around the circles, however I’m one of those guys that need to see things for themselves and on this day, I was disappointed by neither.
Down 19-9, Desoto went on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 21 before Amazing Alexis closed out the half with a three and a two and I-Mac was up 26-21 at the half. A Brianna Sifford three pointer gave the Eagles their first lead of the second half 34-33, then a steal by Jones, Jordan, who was fouled by Jones, Alexis, made the score 36-33 and the floodgates were opened as Jones and Sifford led Desoto to a very impressive 30 point quarter and went into the home stretch up 51-42. I call Alexis Amazing for a reason and anytime you have a player of this caliber, your team probably has a chance. Down 56-49 halfway through the final quarter, Alexis hits three straight free throws to close the gap to four. Then she goes coast to coast following teammates Khoria Newmans and one and the Cardinals were down 58-57. A Bryce Owens jumper, followed by two free throws a couple of plays later, gave the Eagles a 62-59 lead as they hold on to beat the Cardinals 70-63. Alexis was, well AMAZING! She scored 41 points on every imaginable way you could think of. For Desoto, Jordan left a lasting impression as she scored 28, while Cha’ Zaye Wright added 16.
