Summit Flies With HAWKins
Last week Monique Bedford received my “Fantastic Friday “award after her superb performance against Bellaire. I said that would be the only one I would ever give out however after watching Mansfield Summit’s Maya Hawkins completely take over in the second half against North Shore in the first game of the quadruple header this morning, I figured why not do it again and let’s see who it should go to. There were other candidates to consider, such as Empress Davenport from Duncanville and Brooke McCarty or Aaliyah Brown from Clear Springs however I wound up going with Shernise Robertson because she was simply unconscious today and you can check her story out on the BLOG.
Even though she didn’t win it, Hawkins performance gets her picture on the front page as she came off the bench to score 17 points, all in the second half of a 53-41 victory over North Shore. How important were her points? Out of their 32 second half points, the junior point guard scored over half of them from a variety of spots on the court, whether it was a three or taking it to the rack, Hawk was on the attack and doing it with flair. This sets the stage for a matchup against Clear Springs in the semifinals while Cy Falls goes against Duncanville, both games at 9 am, winners play at 1:30 for the Gold Championship
