Standout Guards Houston Summer Slam Elite Division

Here’s a group that I didn’t even have to look at my notes because what they did and how they did it is embedded in my memory, for now, because it’s all about progression yet here we go

Scejonna Anderson (IJU 17U) 2023 could have easily dropped her on the upcoming shooter’s list as well as the defensive squad but she is so versatile, on both ends, drops the mid to long, on the ball defense, and brings it a hunnid

Riley McCloskey (Just Play Elite 17U Gold) 2023– one of the top PGs in Texas, #sizedontmatter when you can play, and watching her throw 20 foot passes in traffic with either hand, on the money helps solidify what I’m saying yet her ball-handling and ability to control the tempo, plus she can score off the dribble or mid to long-range

Aniyah Sanford (Houston United 832) 2023– another one of the top PGs in Texas as well as another with the #sizedontmatter hashtag but what I enjoy most about her is that she continued to progress. She outrebounds taller players, yes seriously, her “on the ball defense” is solid yet she also knows how to run a team as well as drop the mid to long-range or score off the dribble

Gabrielle Panter ( Just Play Elite 16U Gold) did a good job creating her shot as well as knocking it down with a hand in her face but she also attacked strongly off the dribble and finished after the lick

Danielle Ruffin (Houston United Chuck) 2024– on the ball defender, never takes a play off, can attack from anywhere with her explosive first step, and plays the passing lane so what else, she can drop the outside shot

Aniya Jackson (Truth Platinum) 2024 solid defender yet equally solid at making the defender work because her first step sets everything up and watching her finish after contact as well as knocking it down from outside was nice also

Madison Hurta (Austin Elite RFW) I remember her telling me “you know I can do more than shoot the 3 right” well she didn’t actually say it. Still, she sent it to me subliminally and she was right as her handling of the ball and seeing the floor, both under pressure keep getting better yet that mid to long-range… I also enjoyed her attacking and finishing as well as defending

Sophia Rodriguez (Houston United Bobby) 2026– poise playing up is why I chose her, well also because of her upside, and as she gets ready to enter high school, I’m seeing the transformation because her mid to long-range is going to create some problems for defenders, especially since she’s attacking from every angle
