Sophia Young Elite’s step up at IBC
Watching the younger group of Sophia Young Elite players gave me a breath of fresh air as I had a chance to see many difference makers of the future back during the Cy Fair Invitational. I didn’t get to see much of their Red and Black teams however I was sold on many of their players once the Insiders Basketball Classic was over. Let’s start with Red as several players stepped up during various times and showed they could score. In one game, Bailey and Shelbi Miller were on fire while Miranda Acuna and Mikki Flores stayed hot each game I watched them. Endia Peterson created havoc on defense and also showed she could shoot the three, like Acuna, Flores and Hill. This group was solid enough to bring home the first place trophy in the NCAA Division
The Black team was simply off the chain as well and a list of next level players went on and on and on. I knew Brianna Millet was going to be a star when she was in 8th grade, she is smooth as silk and can do so many things on the floor, all good. Jordyn Holmes showed me an abundance of defense and athleticism on opening day and the ability to score from everywhere on day two and I’m talking long ball as well. Speaking of long ball, Shelby Miskell’s stroke is one of the best I’ve seen. No windup needed from this young lady as she can catch and shot with the best of them.
Mykel Costley last name fits because letting her get in the paint was truly costly for the defense and at 6’2, she showed agility and also could face the basket and score. Tia Mason at 6’3 simply can dominate on the inside as well and with her strength, at times she was simply unstoppable. Simone Fields scored so effortlessly and within the flow of the game that she at times made it look easy and before you knew it she had double digits. I truly enjoyed watching these young ladies including that magnificent middle school baller Gabby Connally. This 2017 Texas class is so strong, I’m giving everyone a heads up it will break the record set for next level players that 2012 made and you heard it here first. By playing up and in the top division, how high Connally goes is simply up to her as she is a legitimate Top 100 candidate right now and I’m talking nationally.
