Size don’t matter Tip Sheet from TI
I can’t emphasize how important it is to separate basketball players from players playing basketball. If you think a player, no matter what obstacles or so called drawbacks lie ahead, you prove that you not only belong but you can play and the best way to do that is to show me on the court. I often talk about how size doesn’t matter, Tana Driver is a shade above five feet yet Mids and BCS have not only shown interest, some have offered at that level. I had a chance to see some of the smaller guards take over from both the Texas Invitational and Aldine Tournament and to qualify, you have to be 5’5 or smaller, just putting that in so I don’t get any emails about who I left off. Chasity Patterson would have been on the list but she grew J
2014
Keyanna Smith-5’5 guard-Duncanville HS
Smith stepped into the starting line-up after an injury to Korie Leary and has paid dividends. North Shore had the Pantherettes on the ropes in pool play yet big buckets and steals from Smith helped seal the victory. Down the stretch, she did it again against Manvel to help secure another Texas Invitational title for Duncanvillee
Jaon Redic-5’5 guard-Clear Springs HS
Redic has been a pleasant surprise for the Lady Chargers and her ability to stretch the defense by hitting the long ball came in handy during the TI. She also gives them another scoring threat other than Brooke McCarty and Paige Tippet from the outside
Shaqueria Debose-5’5 guard-Eisenhower
Debose can do it however it needs to be done. She’s strong and can take defenders off the dribble yet she can score from all over the court. She knows how to run a team and she’s solid on defense. Her performance helped Ike place 2nd in the Aldine Tournament
Samantha Perales -5’5 guard-SA Jay HS
Perales joins a long list of entertaining guards from San Antonio and her fire and passion on the floor helps to get her teammates going. I don’t remember which game it was, yet Jay was down and she dropped three three’s in 90 seconds which fueled a comeback at the TI
2015
Adriiana Jackson-5’1 guard-North Shore HS
Her game has elevated like she does on the court and when you’re this size and able to get your shot off against just about anyone, well that says it all. Jackson has putting up numbers all season and her performance against Duncanville was superb in the TI
Bernesha Peters-5’3 guard-Spring HS
There’s fast and fast with the ball and she can handle the ball with either hand, no matter what speed she’s going. Her court vision is second to none yet she score almost at will. Her performance in the Aldine Tournament helped Spring win it all
Moriah Cresswell-5’5 guard-SA Madison
I received texts about this young lady on opening day telling me I needed to see her and I’m glad I did. She’s explosive and can score, she anticipates well and can pass but her energy stays up no matter what the scoreboard reads
2016
Angela Harris-5’5 guard-Cy Fair HS
Harris was on all weekend and there was plenty of buzz about her as she helped lead Cy Fair to the D2 Gold in the TI. She’s strong and athletic and can shoot the ball from just about anywhere. Her court vision has improved and her defense is “in your face, baseline to baseline”
