Shaw And Barbers Hill Standing Tall
KENDALL SHAW
Barbers Hill has pulled off the unexpected and made it to state, reminiscent of Elsik’s feat last season. Their opening round opponent, Mansfield Summit has had some pretty good success against area teams defeating both The Woodlands and North Shore, while losing to Clear Springs and Cy Falls by single digits. The impressive thing is that all four of those schools were or finished ranked in just about every Top 25 this season and to top that off Cy Falls is representing Region 3 in Austin. This means absolutely nothing if you’re a Barbers Hill fan because Beaumont Ozen had similar success in fact they even beat Clear Springs however the Eagles handled them with ease.
SHANNON EVANS
Shannon Evans, Mackenzie May and Kendall Shaw will have their hands full with Summit who have one of the smoothest players in the 2012 class, Ashley Eli along with one of the state’s top 2013 guards in Maya Hawkins. The amazing part about the Eagles win is they didn’t need a lot of points from Shaw in pulling off the upset yet the damage was done by their backcourt which saw May drop at least 25 and Evans having a double-double. I don’t know if Ozen had a let down but Hawkins brings energy like few players and this one won’t be as easy as the last one. The Eagles will have to be clicking on all cylinders and I’m sure they will because just getting there isn’t enough.
