SETX Blue & White teams #simmiecolsonclassic

Coach Jack Smith and I became friends instantaneously over a decade ago because I understood and agreed with his vision for helping players achieve their dreams. He’s going to always keep it real, he told me he was bringing some heat and of course, he was correct. I already dropped his 2027 squad, SETX Grey, and I’ve dropped a few of his players on my PGH Texas Tip Sheet from Day 1 and Day 2 yet here are some others

PARIS NIXON, EMILEE TOTINO & MATTIE HOLMES

BLUE

Kyra Owens showed me last season she could play in pain, yet she did it again, and let me say this, her progression from last season JUST DID IT for me. Her size, frame, hands, and footwork have turned a corner, she’s even showing the pull-up jumper, elevating for it at that

Lyric Smith is “long and athletic” you know that’s the base, right? She scores off the dribble, nice body control but she also rebounds and runs the floor on both ends. Her timing is nice, she plays the passing lane and handles the ball in the open court afterward

Kelsyn Bruce is one of those players I love to drop that #sizedontmatter hashtag on. Why, because she can play, and watching her not only handle the ball but also see the floor under pressure was nice, so was her dropping the mid to long-range

Mattie Holmes made the PGH Day 1 Tip Sheet because it seemed like every time I looked up, she was dropping the 3. She also did a good job handling the ball as well as seeing the floor and her defense was solid

Paris Nixon made the PGH Day 2 Tip Sheet and to be honest after going over my notes, she could have made both days. She’s heady and under control, I love her poise under pressure and the “you can’t stop me” mindset but she understands how to take games over as well as make those around her better

Marianna Sandoval did a good job of getting hers in the flow. She made good decisions and played within herself yet her defense was good, she used a nice first step to attack the basket and she has the good court vision

Madison Powell is “long and athletic” so you see the trend on this team. She did a good job defending, understands positioning, and was able to rebound but she also did a good job attacking the basket from multiple angles

Emilee Totino had me thinking about that pizza JINGLE but no one can top her effort, on both ends. I enjoy her attacking the basket with either end yet she also applied heat defensively. She can create her shot and she sees the floor

WHITE

Yaheira Baptiste has UPS and watching her elevate for rebounds was nice, yet even nicer was her DESIRE to go after everything off the rim so let me drop #THROWBACK. She also showed the hand and footwork combination to score in the paint

Allie Tillerson showed me enough to make that opening day Tip Sheet for PGH and I loved how poised and under control she was handling the pressure. Yeah she can shoot but she also saw the floor

Madysyn Cotton did a good job around the basket, her DROP step was very impressive but was her finishing around the basket, again “hands and footwork” make a huge difference. She rebounded, scored on putbacks, even played the passing lane, and handled the ball afterward in the open court

JAZZ BETTS

Jazz Betts did a good job inside the paint and they say a picture is worth a thousand words, see above as she BATTLES for everything, off the rim, on the floor, and even in the stands. She scored around the basket and defended

Kira Middleton is long and athletic, please remember that is the BASE, yet no matter how many times I say it, many will never get it, and speaking of getting it, she got after it playing the passing lane as well as good defense and she scored off the dribble

Devonna Pugh is a “long and athletic” guard that did a good job defending “on the ball” and also showed she could set the defender up to attack off the dribble

Madison Riedinger is yet another “long and athletic” guard and her deceptive first step was nice as she attacked off the dribble, played the passing lane, and defended

Cadence Smith is yet another long and athletic guard but she defends on the ball, and plays within herself yet she understands how to get hers in the flow
