Role players huge for Springs run
JO ANN LIRA
One thing I try and do is break things down as simple as possible, problem is that doesn’t always work, especially in GBB. Clear Springs is going to state not just because Brooke McCarty is “The Chosen One” and Courtney Latham Is “the Underrated One”, again Tulane is getting a steal. In GBB, every player is not a superstar and it’s a difference between good, very good and great and once you accept that and play within yourself, more times than not, things will fall into place however that doesn’t always happen. The Chargers have shown that they are truly a team and have won some big games along the way, such as that second Manvel game when they shot in the twenties, because they know how to win.
I’m taking McCarty and Latham out of the equation, they’ve come up huge time and time again but there have been other dynamics over the past three seasons which have kept Clear Springs in the area F-4 and each postseason game they have played at Campbell has been mmm mmm good Jo Ann Lira has done the little things that may go unnoticed, such as the big steal, assist or pass to the assist however her knowledge and understanding of playing within herself has always been a plus. The Lamar signee can also nail the jumper and her spin move she developed early in her career should have been patented
KAYLIN ROHER
Kaylin Roher is simply amazing and I probably should have named her “The Silent Assassin” because she will nail one, such as that game winning three against Elsik when McCarty was injured last season, or better yet, the one against Manvel in the E-8 this season, without cracking a smile. Rhyshiniqe Bell will leave here as one of the best undersized post players however when you are a team full of guards, someone has to play the five and she has met the challenge admirably. She has also shown she can do really good things from the other positions and although unsigned like Roher, neither will be for long
The first two off the bench, Paige Tippet and Alysse Dowdy, aren’t household names but believe me they are in the house, ask Plano West about that five overtime thriller, aka,” The Game”. Both players put in extra minutes and came up with huge plays to keep that game going and although I was tired and hungry, I enjoyed every minute of it. Clear Springs was tired and hungry as well, tired of losing in the first round of the F-4 back to back seasons and hungry to take Coach Pam Crawford to state and I’ve always said if any team from R-3 could beat Duncanville, it would be Clear Springs and ironically, along with surprisingly, that’s who they will be playing in the first round
