Region 1-District 7 is all I have to say
Three teams from the same district made my holiday top ten list, that shouldn’t be a surprise if you follow me because I’ve said time and time District 7 was the toughest in the state and it has been for at least the past two seasons. Duncanville simply finds ways to win, Marcus and Timberview were both in striking distance however the Pantherettes found ways to win. Timberview has been plagued by injuries the past two seasons, Jalea Bennett and Terriell Bradly both made the Tip Sheet from the Mansfield Invitational however their fourth place finish has me wondering if they have time to put it together. Aurmani DeGar (SMU signee) and Kayla Crump were going to be integral parts of this season’s run; however both are out with injuries but Zodia Abra has stepped up and was huge in the event. 6’2 Dayo Olabode (Texas Tech signee) has expanded her game from being just a back to the basket player to attacking from the wing and dropping threes. Megan Badjo has also shown signs of dominating in the paint on both ends but a promising freshmen group that includes Alesa Gerald, is getting crunch time minutes as they prepare for a run
Desoto, who lost to Timberview last night, is scary and by that I mean they took the best team from R3 to the wire in Sandra Meadows losing by three. Najala Howell is legit, Robin Beck is young but isn’t far behind. Here’s the deal, Brianna Wise is capable of going off at any time, Chastadie Barrs is one of the best defenders in the state and the leadership from Ebony Colbert and Jasmine McClellan not to forget Dy/ Teesha Diggles creating problems on the inside, hey, in a one game playoff this team is scary, on paper. Someone suggested re-seeding the best teams from each region once they made the Sweet 16. That’s still unlikely however the E8 or F4 from each region should definitely be looked at because in all fairness, the best teams should be in Austin but then again…….
