Pearland Flames Turning Heat Up

The Pearland Flames have been blazing through the club season as if they were on a mission to prove something and they did exactly that at the Houston Insiders Basketball Classic. One thing that has me sold is that the core group, Miranda LeJune, Laneetra Guillory, Kaila Chizer and Keara Hudnall all play for Pearland High School, all are from the 2014 class and all are definitely playing at the next level. The same could be said for several other players on that team including the heady Monica Gomes and super athletic Cree Hammond, both play at Dawson, but Pearland may be one of the surprise teams in Region 3 next season.

LANEETRA GUILLORY

LeJune has really taken it up a notch and become more than just a three point threat. Her ball handling under pressure has vastly improved not to mention her court awareness as she sees the floor very well. I guess that shouldn’t be a problem with the inside presence of the Guillory, Chizer and Hudnall. Guillory, the tallest of the group at around 6’1, has been adding something new to her game as she can stretch the defense by stepping out to nail the 12-15 footer. Hudnall in one word is simply described by me as an absolute beast, okay two words. If she was two inches taller she would be a Top 100 player, her work ethic is second to none as she simply never quits. Chizer has also been a pleasant surprise however this one I saw coming since she was around seven or eight years old. Her mom is a former coach for the University of Houston and both of her parents were star athletes, that shows by her dads pregame workouts just getting the kids ready but Kaila is on the verge of breaking completely out. Don’t be surprised to see Pearland make a run next season.
