Memorial over Mayde Creek
Memorial traveled to Mayde Creek for a game which could go a long way to determine who will make the playoffs from their district. The three teams who many believe are playoff locks are Katy Taylor, Seven Lakes and Cinco Ranch, however you can’t use any type of logic based on the way the season has gone. When I arrived, I saw that there was good news and bad news as I walked in. The good news was Jaz Parker was going to be able to play after rolling her ankle Saturday in the Spring Branch Invitational. The bad news is both teams appeared to be sluggish during the warm-ups, which is understable after playing two games on Saturday in that same tournament.
The game started out all Memorial as Kirby McDaniel and Ellen Anderson came out on fire in the first quarter as those two combined for 13 and Memorial led 15-13. McDaniel added another 6 in the second quarter as they extended the lead to 25-18 at the half. Sheila Onyekwere’s 10 points kept this game from getting completely out of hand and Mayde Creek was still in striking distance. In the third quarter, the Rams outscored the Mustangs 12-11 behind 6 points from both Parker and Onyekwere. The final quarter was a totally different story as Memorial put together a couple of runs, aided by a flagrant foul and outscored the Rams 20-8, winning 56-38. McDaniel finished with 26 points, Kelly Wilson had 11 and Anderson added 8. For the Rams, Onyekwere scored 18, while Parker dropped in 14.
