Monday Upsets Anyone?
Clear Creek has its hands full when they tangle with Clear Springs on Monday night at Clear Lake. Springs is led by one of the top 2014 players in the country, Brooke Mc Carty, and a supporting cast of guards that score from on a variety of ways few teams have ever seen. The Chargers are one of the top teams in the state, they made it to the Regional Final 4 last season and they have defeated their district rival twice this season, one by a somewhat close margin and one by a lot, not to mention that even though they are losing Aaliyah Brown, they will be one of the teams to beat next season as well. None of what I just said matters to Taylor Longley and Brentney Branch who are offensive threats capable of combining for over fifty points. The Wildcats are one of two third place teams who have made the Elite 8, Cy Ranch is the other and the ironic part is they both are facing the number one team in their district who happen to be the top teams in the region
Atascocita made it to the Elite 8 last season where they fell to eventual state finalist Georgetown 60-55 however that was supposed to be their season to at least make it to state. After all they had 6’7 Rachel Mitchell, a Top 100 player who had signed with Texas A&M along and Chrishauna Parker, one of the top players in the state who had signed with UTEP to go along with their “Big Three” of Curtyce Knox, Rachel Arthur and Lauren Price. Sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce the way it should and this season appeared bleak to say the least when it started because Knox tore her ACL back in June during the A&M camp. Atascocita had to adjust without Knox as Arthur and Price carried the load and when Knox returned back to the line-up they had to readjust which had been rocky at times to say the least. That adjustment appears to be complete as they started the playoffs with Knox and Price scoring 20 points each while Arthur added 19 accounting for 59 of their teams 67 points in a victory over Klein Oak. After defeating Austin Anderson, they have to face the best team in the area, possibly the region and maybe the state in Dekaney on Monday night at Summer Creek High School. Atascocita’s run has been impressive to say the least this season and their “Big Three” want to go out with a bang, problem is so do Dekaney seniors Alexis Durley and Shunta Nevitt and Dekaney has one of the strongest supporting casts of any team in the state as juniors Brianna Taylor, Amber Driver and Jaleesa Chapel along with sophomore Kayla Nevitt and like Clear Springs, makes them an early favorite for next season as well, this should help those doing the preseason rankings who omitted The Woodlands this season.
