Eagles Continue To Soar

EAGLES CONTINUE TO SOAR

Klein Forest Girl’s basketball is doing something it hasn’t done in a long time and that’s win games. They’re also doing something that will help them in the long run and that’s winning games with “the youngstas”. There’s an old saying “The good thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores”, mainly because of the simple mistakes they make and this youthful team makes plenty of simple mistakes which is scary, because once they figure it out, this team could be special.

Riding a two game winning streak, Langham Creek was next on the list. Klein Forest jumped out with a bang, leading 18-9 after the first quarter; Ebony Parker, one of their outstanding freshmen, scored 8 of those 18, which included 2 three pointers and Desiree Davis added 5, while Taylor Hollins was trying to keep Creek from going up the creek with her offense.

The second quarter started with another one of Klein Forest’s freshmen, Jeliah Preston, nailing back to back three pointers, to offset a 5-0 Langham Creek run. The rest of quarter was a different story as Langham Creek went on a run with a barrage of jumpers, many from beyond the arc and took their first lead on a pull up by Amy Groves, 29-27 and went into the half leading 33-31, despite Hollins sitting most of the quarter in foul trouble. Two other freshmen, Ekiya Gray and Regina Scott kept Klein Forest in the game during the run.

The third quarter was all KF as Keylantra Taylor took control on both ends and when Jasmine Rollins nailed two free throws, it gave them their biggest lead at the time, 55-44. Langham Creek however refused to give up and closed the gap once again on back to back jumpers from Christina Brosnahan and halfway through the final quarter, they were in striking distance 60-54. This is when Taylor, one of the top 2011 posts in the city, put the Eagles on her back and scored 7 of Klein Forest’s final 11 points as they move to 3-0 with a 71-58 victory. Taylor finished with 21 points, followed by Davis with 16 and Parker with 14. Groves led Langham Creek with 13 while Hollins added 11.
