Jones heroics come up short in OT loss
KYLAH JONES
Two stars did what I expected them to do on opening day at Conroe Tournament. Alexia Sanders (College Park) and Kylah Jones (Westfield) simply were magnificent on yesterday but they both got plenty of help which could make this an interesting season for both teams. Uma Rajogopalan was solid all game, starting off strong early and finishing even stronger as she finished with 21 points in College Parks 57-56 overtime victory.
College Park appeared on their way to a blowout before Jones came alive with two threes and a field goal as the first quarter ended with Westfield down 16-13 and Westfield in fact applied the pressure and flipped the script as they appeared to be on the verge of making a run however Andrea Velez came up with some big baskets to keep it close.
This was a very good game, in fact the best game of the day and watching these two teams getting after it from start to finish was a relief to say the least. Sanders finished with 14 points, many of them clutch down the stretch for the Lady Cavaliers however when talking about clutch, Jones was simply amazing for the Mustangs as she was pretty close to triple double, leading her team with 18 points followed by Miranda Koulianos and Apriel McDade with 11 each.
Several college coaches were in attendance and like me, were amazed Jones was still on the market however as the word spreads about this gifted guard from Westfield and how she plays, it will happen
