Jene Carter Division Standouts #TJShowcase
I have crisscrossed multiple divisions between here as well as Prep Girls Hoops and this one is no different as I so eloquently dropped the 2025 players from both Austin Elite RFW and Lady Thunder squads along with division champion Phoenix 2025. I also gave you division runner-up San Antonio Hoops Elite 17U as well as some stars from Laredo DCBA in a couple of articles and I can always count on Team Spaz and Team Spaz Centex to drop some players I knew nothing about, the same can be said from Premier DBK from multiple teams
I’ve always tried to SIMplify things, the links and search bars are there for a reason, utilize them because you can find a wealth of knowledge, well my knowledge, not the equivalent of common-core math where it takes you longer to get the answer yet many still don’t know the right question but enough of that, here ya go
Diara Gibbs-5’7 ( Houston United Chuck) 2027- is an athletic guard who does a good job of using her athleticism on both ends but her being under control has impressed me since I initially saw her and her upside is still an attraction because she THINKS the game and understands how to score off the dribble as well as drop the jumper by creating her shot. Court vision is solid, and so is her defense
Destiny Belizeard-5’10 (Houston United Chuck) 2025-is “long and athletic” which is and always will be the base and she gave me an eyeful quickly like attacked the basket strongly and finished using nice body control but she also gave me the “catch and shoot” 3. She did a good job defensively and showed good timing to alter shots
Ma’Zariah Lynch-5’4 (Houston United Chuck) 2026- falls into that #sizedontmatter group n because she can play and her “on the ball” defense as well as playing the passing lane got me going yet she also does a good job creating her shot and drops the midrange
Taylor Lucas-5’5 (Houston United 2025 Bobby) 2025 is a “long and athletic” guard which is also the base but she does a good job defending “on the ball” in the set as well as baseline to baseline. She also showed good court vision and scored off the dribble
Victoria Morris-6’3 (Houston United 2025 Bobby) 2025 has got to be one of the MOST IMPROVED BIGS I have seen this season and her ability and understanding of how to use her college-ready frame around the basket is creating problems. She’s finishing stronger and rebounding on both ends but her lateral movement to defend has also improved plus her “hands and footwork” combo is looking better
Catelyn Lee-5’3 (Houston United 2025 Bobby) 2025- gets the #THROWBACK hashtag for following her shot and she too falls into that #sizedontmatter group but she did a good job of attacking the basket, deceptive first step played a part in that, as well as creating her shot from outside
Gabriella Candlelaria (San Antonio Lady Hoops Maroon) 2025- grabbed my attention early with her “on the ball” pressure which never let up. She also read the floor and played the passing lane, plus she did a good job of setting the defender up to score off the dribble
Kyla Carter (San Antonio Lady Hoops Maroon) 2027- used her quick hands to come away with steals and did a good job defensively in the set. Her court vision was solid, she set the defender up to attack and score off the dribble and dropped the pull-up jumper
Alyvionia Winn-5’10 (AER Lady Thunder 17U) 2026- continues to impress me on both ends of the floor and seeing her go coast to coast after rebounding and score keeps me smiling. Well she is “long and athletic”, yet, still the base but she also steals playing the passing lane and her finishes off the dribble in the set are solid, so is her defense
Jazlyn Hill-5’4 (AER Lady Thunder 17U) 2026- has me still thinking about “the shot” when she attacked the basket, defied gravity, and scored, and that DROPPED THE MIC as well as my clipboard but her pull-up jumper was clicking to go along with scoring off the dribble. She saw the floor and even battled for rebounds against taller players yet one more time, #sizedontmatter when you can play
Brandi Turner-5’9 G (AER Lady Thunder 17U) 2025- keeps doing the little things that add up big at the end and filling up the stat sheet silently is a BIG PLUS. She elevates over defenders to score around the basket, rebounds against taller players, scores off the dribble, and defends in the set as well as full-court
Tynia Minnitt-5’2 (Waco United 17U) 2025– has been one of the players that caught my eye in what, elementary school? Well, she showed immediately #sizedontmatter because she can play. Mid to long-range, stop and pop as well as off the dribble were on full display, so were her defense and court vision
Alaysia Gude-5’9 (Waco United 17U) 2025- seems like I teased her FOREVER about Lay’s potato chips, her nickname is Lay-Lay, yet back-to-back state championships in high school proves there’s plenty left in the bag, and watching her throw blistering-passes in transition with either, I’m talking about 20 plus feet away yet she scores off the dribble after contact, sets the defender up to drop the mid to long-range and applies “on the ball” pressure baseline to baseline
