Is Duncanville better than last season?

Before social networking took over, in the “olden” days message boards were a vital source for information as well as entertainment but I learned a lot over the years from some very knowledgeable people. I would read this and that about Duncanville and their history and to be honest with you prior to my daughters wanting to become involved in basketball; I didn’t really follow the game on the female side. That changed in a hurry and the more I learned, the more I wanted to find out and when my daughter’s high school team, Westside, played in the Sandra Meadows Classic back in 2006, I could truly feel the history when I walked into Sandra Meadows Arena.

Duncanville has a large fan base, some date back to when Sandra Meadows coached herself and I equate that almost to what Wheatley has done over the years on the boy’s side in Houston. They love and support their Pantherettes through thick and thin and even when they weren’t winning state championships, district titles or even the Sandra Meadows Classic, not once did I hear or read anything negative and that’s what it should truly be about.

Last season, Duncanville put together a magnificent run and their only blemish was a loss to Plano West 58-50 at the start of the season, so they haven’t actually lost a game since 2011. They were the best GBB team I had ever seen and their 30 plus point halftime lead against Dekaney in the state championship game sort of lets you know why I made that statement because Dekaney had at least six D1 players on their team.

Off the top, they face Clear Springs and I’ve said several times if any team from our area could beat the Pantherettes, it would be the Chargers but Clear Springs would need to shoot the ball as well as they did against Bellaire to do so because after watching Duncanville in the Texas Invitational earlier this season and again in the Sandra Meadows Classic, they were in playoff form

I know the game is played on the court and whoever wins will have to face either Pflugerville or Cibolo Steele in the championship game Saturday night so it isn’t a given that the winner will be from the earlier semifinal. “The Fluge” is very athletic and apply the heat while Steele has a couple of players capable of scoring 30 each so you just never know but one thing is for sure, if Duncanville does win it again, you will have the answer to the title
