HSHT part 2 Tip Sheet
2017 LAURA ROWE KATY REBELS-POTH
2014
Kendra Rainey-5’10 forward-San Antonio Lady Bulls
Rainey came up huge in several ways for the Lady Bulls in helping lead them to the HS crown. She has a knack for being around the ball on both ends and her ability to score in traffic or stopping and popping the 10-12 footer was consistent every time I watched her play
Marissa Garza-5’9 guard-Texas Lady Elite
Garza shows no signs of being injured earlier in the season and her relentless effort on the court is contagious as her teammates fed off of it. She’s smart and plays even larger than her size and knows how to use her body to score underneath however she can face the basket or take you off the dribble also
Chelsea Clemons-5’4 guard-Lady Prodigy
Clemons was one of many very active guards on the team that could do a number of things however her ability to score almost at will in some games put her squad in positions to win. She has great speed with the ball, she can defend and she knocks down shots from all over the court
2015
Lauren Grigsby-5’9 guard-Blue Steel
A second Tip Sheet in a month I a rarity for me however Grigsby just makes everyone around her better. She didn’t play on opening day yet on day two had her team in serious contention to make a run. She anticipates so well and her athleticism is through the roof which enables her to defend and rebound with the best of them in her class. She elevates high on her shot which enables her to score almost at will at times
Brittany Perkins-5’8 guard-Houston Hoops
Everyone loves a success story and I’m no different as Perkins game continues to evolve. Over the past two seasons, I’ve seen a huge jump in her demeanor on the floor as she seriously knows she’s one of the girls. Her passing ability and being able to see the floor was shown as her no look through traffic was almost as loud as the thunder outside and her scoring throughout the tournament helped put her team in a position to win it all
2016
Kaitlyn Strassner-5’6 guard-Pearland Hawks
Talk about improvement, Strassner simply gets better each time I see her play and she was amazing on day one. She attacked the rim from every imaginable angle for buckets and her outside shot was on the money but what really caught my eye is how quick she was off the dribble because that first step put her in the position to do whatever she wanted
2017
Kendalyn Reece-5’9 guard-MC Ladycats
Long and lean, Reeece continues to show signs that she will be a name to be reckoned with in her class. Her outside shooting continues to improve as well as her ball handling under heat and varsity athletes came at her hard throughout the event. She glides to the basket and simply elevates over defenders for baskets and whatever she’s missing won’t be missing for long
Laura Rowe-5’9 guard-Katy Rebels-Poth 2017
I heard she was good before I saw her and I’m labeling her D1 after seeing her. She can score any way you want not to mention rebound and defend. The most appealing thing about her game is she’s unselfish and gets her points in the flow. She gets just as excited giving out an assist however if she needs to take over she has the ability to do just that. The icing on the cake is her potential hasn’t been reached
Savannah Bambridge-5’8 guard-Houston Premier 14U
I’ve watched her about five times this season and one thing is for certain, she knows how to put points on the scoreboard. She’s constantly moving on the court and makes her moves on defenders by setting them up and if she catches them leaning, she’s there for a bucket. She’s strong and she finishes the same way not to mention she’s consistently hitting the midrange
2018
Dari Gabriel-5’8 guard-Eastside Ballers
Talk about turning the corner, Gabriel is on par to be exploding once she enters high school. A huge growth spurt and maturity on the floor helped her put up numbers every game. She knows how to attack and finish, outside shot has improved and she’s deceptively quick off the dribble
2019
Amanda Ferry-6’0 forward-DFW Elite Houston 2019
She’s one of three players around the magic number on a very talented young team however Ferry continues to show she can be relentless in the paint. She explodes for rebounds, she fills the lanes on the break and she doesn’t mind picking up her man in the back court. She isn’t anywhere near where she’ll be but before it’s all said and done as far as her untapped potential which is off the charts
2021
Ashton and Addison Poth-4’7 guards-Katy Rebels-Poth 2021
Katy has a new set of twins on my radar and what’s that saying about first impressions? I have a saying too, it’s not what you do, it’s you do it against but I also have another once that also works, it’s not what you do, it’s how you do it and the basketball IQ on these kids is better than some varsity players I’ve seen of late. They understand simple things and anticipate what’s going to happen, that’s all fine and dandy but their skill set is off the chain as well. With strength and time, these young ladies are going to be forces that defenders will have to reckon with and I’ll be right here letting you know about it
