Houston Summer Slam-HS Competitive Tip Sheet
So whenever I run into Houston United director Chuck McCowan, I usually yell “What The Chuck” and it’s not only because I’m glad to see him, I do things to get reactions from others and set the tone, just in case, yet the Houston Summer Slam definitely gave me a boost, especially from teams that turned in rosters as I will be updating as well as adding players to PGH Texas rankings and Watch Lists and although a lot of what I do is downplayed by many, if your daughter doesn’t have over 100 D1 offers, win a National Championship in college and play 9 years in the WNBA, well keep listening to fools, but nevertheless, here are some of the top players from the HS Competitive Division, follow me on social media, everything is under Girlz Prep Report and remember, no one does what I do or have done
Sophia Stockwell-G (BDA Carey) sold me off the top by playing the passing lane and she handles in the open court so that led to baskets but she also creates her shot in the set, to either attack, she finishes strongly after contact, or drop the pull-up jumper
MaKyah Foreman-G (BDA Ford) I crossed over to the other side to catch a glimpse and left with an eyeful because she too plays the passing lane, one of my pet peeves, and she, not only attacks and finishes but she understands how to create contact giving her “and one” opps
Bria Knight (Houston United Blue 2024) I love her upside, to the novice, her being “long and athletic” is a definite plus because it’s also the base and she does things instinctively, which is something else I love to see. She rebounder and showed she could score
Aniyah Bevly-5’8 W (Houston United 2023 White) has a strong body, she finishes after contact and this is either on putbacks or attacking the basket yet she’s a 2024, and the desire she’s showing tells me a lot about her upside
Carly Metz-5’5 G (Houston United 2023 White) another 2024 playing up yet without the roster, you wouldn’t know because she plays with confidence as well as within herself and she did a good job creating her shot under pressure
Tanya Phillip (Texas Cagers Select Blue) long and athletic is what? the base, so stay with me because watching her attack the basket multiple times by setting the defender up with a deceptive first step, as well as showing UPS on both ends of the court, her upside is very nice
Hallie Ikenberry (Texas Cagers Select Blue) plays “the passing lane” and when you anticipate what’s coming, it usually leads to scoring opportunities and in this case, it does because she can handle the ball in the open court as well as knock the pull-up jumper down
Nataliyah Gray (Cy Fair Premier 2025) arrived late, the team was down double-digits, she went to work, the team won by 20, unlike many running around here, I can’t make this stuff nor will I yet what she has steadily become allows me to drop #BEAST because she’s over “the magic number” of 6’0 and her UPSIDE is what really scares, well not me, but she is going to be a nightmare to defend
Rezia Castillo (Cy Fair Premier 2025) her first step, her acceleration in the open and her blistering passes in traffic first caught my eye when she was 8 years old, and fast forward to now, she understands how to control the tempo, she scores off the dribble and can drop the jumper
Margan Allen (Cy Fair Premier 2025) the progression I keep seeing tells me a lot about what’s coming, she understands how to “score in the flow” and is also showing she can down shots in the clutch
Samantha Fields (Texas Elite 1 Hogg) heady PG that controls tempo very well, she also handles the ball under pressure and sees the floor but she can score, either off the dribble or dropping the midrange
Keoshia Woodson (Texas Elite 1 Hogg) first step sets everything up as she attacks the basket strongly, yet under control and to add, she scores after contact but her energy is also there on the defensive end as she applies pressure in the set or whole court
M’Kiyiah Oliver (Louisiana United Clay) creates her shot under pressure and watching her attack strongly while finishing after contact as well as showing she could drop it from outside, mid to long-range, was nice, so was her defense
Kamiera McDonald (Louisiana United Clay) showed the pull-up jumper in the half-court as well as the “stop and pop” jumper in transition but the bottom line is she understands how to get her shot off and knock it down
Ray’Onna Sterling (Louisiana United Clay) not only did she handle the ball in the open court, but she also showed she could get by defenders using the “STUTTA” as well as the “HEZ” yet her dropping the “floata” just did it for me
Jada Richard (Louisiana United Clay) left a lasting first impression for a number of reasons, first of all, she’s “long and athletic’ and what she adds to the base #D1Lock and you can throw away the key. She sees the floor, she elevates over defenders for her jumper, mid to long and her acrobatic finishes were nice as well
Keelechi Dike (Houston Dream Elite Red) her progression definitely has my attention for a number f reasons and my first sighting saw the raw talent but it also saw desire and watching her rebound, either by getting good positioning or just using her UPS are great signs
Shunteria Davis (Houston Dream Elite Red-her explosive first step in both the half and open court, combined with her body control enable her to score off the dribble yet she also showed a nice pull-up jumper in the midrange
Rachel Okoye (Houston Dream Elite Red) her first step sets it off, either for the pull-up jumper or attacking while showing acrobatic finishes after contact yet the heat she applies on defense is smothering and as a bonus, she plays the passing lane
Ivonna Lloyd (Texas Cagers Select Blue) the game starts at the 1 and #sizedontmatter when you can play, so she’s heady, plays under control and within herself yet she sees the floor well and understands who and when to distribute to. She also showed the jumper and handed the ball well
