Houston Lady Nets 17U and 16U #simmiecolsonclassic
I guess I first got a glimpse of a team from their organization about 3 seasons ago and I haven’t stopped looking. keeping both eyes wide open because I know they will be bringing legitimate heat. The scary part about it is that Taylor Spencer, Tailor Perkins, and Keiora Gaines are on IR, Spencer, one of the top guards in the state, will be back soon and all three are juniors
Here ya go as I close it out
17U
2023
Joerdan Thomas has always gone hard on both ends but the unsigned senior guard was attacking the basket with a vengeance, finishing after contact along with showing the pull-up jumper yet her intensity was the same on the flip as she applied “on the ball” pressure
2024
Alexus Brownlow went after everything off the rim, on both ends yet her being “long and athletic” which is the base, enabled her to show her timing to block, alter and (or” deflect shots. She also applied defensive pressure inside the paint
Treasure Emeh is a long and athletic guard, base is still there, and watching her attack the basket at will and finish was more than solid, as well as her on-the-ball pressure, baseline to baseline. She handled the ball, under pressure and saw the floor
Za’Kenya Thompson left a lasting impression last season yet her progression placed her on the Day 1 PGH Tip Sheet. She’s falling into the “finds ways to put the ball into the basket” category because mid to long-range, off the dribble as well as putbacks, she’s on it
Kymira Houston used her athleticism on both ends, first of all, her defense helped create turnovers as she reads the floor well, yet she does the same on the offensive end as she attacked and finished after contact but also showed she could drop it from deep
Amariah Burns used her size well around the basket as she not only rebounded on both ends, she also ran the floor, on both ends. She did a good job defensively inside the paint and she finished
2025
Taiya Kikunga was also strong on the inside as she scored around the basket as well as on putbacks, yes she rebounded on both ends of the court. She also defended and ran the floor, on both ends
2026
Kennedy Simpson impressed me off the top last season that she was added to the initial PGH 2026 Watchlist so of course, she made the Day 1 Tip Sheet, and as good as she was last season, she’s even better and more poised under pressure showing she can take a game over offensively with the blink of an eye
16U
Sydney Barras is “long and athletic” yet smoothly created her shot in the set to knock down the midrange. She also can drop the “stop and pop” in transition as well as handle the ball in the open court. She attacks, with either hand and did a good job defending
Madi Mayes is, you guessed it, “long and athletic” and watching her rebound, on both ends, and play solid defense was nice but she also elevated to alter some shots. She scored around the basket as well as off the dribble
Trinity Powell brought plenty of heat defensively, in fact, her “on the ball” pressure baseline to baseline was smothering yet she uses her athleticism on the offensive end as well as she attacks the basket and finishes after the lick
Kisha Nedd is also “long and athletic” with high energy going after rebounds and that, as well as her using the “drop step” gets her the #THROWBACK hashtag. She also did a good job defending in and outside the paint
Jeani Arthur is another athletic guard, that’s also long, and watching her play the passing lane and handle the ball afterward showed me a lot. She has good court vision and is explosive off the dribble, yet her body control on finishes is very nice
Kelis Miliam falls into another category I hashtag, #sizedontmatter because she can play. She’s athletic, and applies pressure defensively in the half, as well as full court but she also handled the ball and saw the floor, as well as attacked the basket strongly
I had to get a picture of Ty’Asia Young, a talented 2028 player that brought a lot to the table starting with her mindset as well as athleticism, yes she’s long too, plays the passing lane, and scores with the jumper as well as off the dribble. She’s one of many I’ll be watching on the Houston Lady Nets younger squads, 13 and 14U over the years
