Golden Triangle Elite leaves #IBC with huge wins

2014 Banfield GTE

MARISSA BANFIELD

CYPRESS, Texas – The Golden Triangle Elite program is one I am all too familiar with after running into them last season at the Prime Time qualifier so to say I was elated that they would be bringing their teams to the Insiders Basketball Classic is an understatement because one thing is certain, they definitely have some kids that can play at the next level at various levels. Their top team, GTE-Gold, knocked off some heavy hitters in the event, losing only to eventual WNBA –Blue champions Lady Houston Phenoms and we all know where the game starts at so here goes.  Marissa Banfield makes plays, makes things happen, knows how to control the tempo and simply gets the ball to the right people plus she can also score from just about anywhere if needed and mark me word, she’s definitely one of the top points in Texas 2017. Megan Worry blew me away last season, she’s a nightmare to defend and being right at 6’0, her range is unlimited and her double digit effort of three pointers gives you some insight

Other players can also stretch the defense with their shooting, 2018 Megan Wilkinson also showed me a thing or three last season, she’s a smart player that can play at a young age is priceless and when you have as many players that simply can shoot it, you’re going to pull off some big wins. Alix Sellers can shoot it long and midrange, so can Taylor Powell who also took defenders to the hole at will. Essynce Templeton and Derecra Garrett helped keep the intensity up as they made huge plays while Savanna Richardson was huge in the paint going doing some athletic things on both ends and once 6’1 Tori Thompson is back to her old self following a minor injury, watch out.

2014 IBC GTE

I didn’t get a chance to see GTE-Black but they have some shooters I’m familiar with as well. Breasia Allison, Whitney Bernard and Downtown Victoria Brown have range from the concession stand howeverI did see GTE White

and two things, Kennedi Lofton is a freshman and she’s 6’2, everything else will fall into place. Hannah Lowe and Simran Mayfield simply found ways to score, Mayfield is only an 8th grader and blew me away when I covered John Lucas’ All Star Weekend in New Orleans back in February and the athleticism and energy from both Aubrey Hubert and Miyah Keller got White some easy buckets throughout the event, well so did Paris Fregia who came up huge several times
