Ganon Baker Camp showcases future stars

GB Sayers and Routt

2017 KEATON SAYERS AND 2018 SHAE ROUTT

There is nothing more refreshing than seeing young players who possess a lot of potential at an early age. I can honestly say that I have witnessed first-hand many young ladies from the area who were younger than the youngest player that participated in the Ganon Baker Camp hosted by Alodia, 3rd grader Ashlon Jackson, that continued to work on their games, progressed and became a next level player

I’ve also witnessed countless players who were over and beyond all of their peers in elementary and middle school pan out and not go on to play at the next level but my advice to all who participated is take what you learned and work on in it every chance you get because you won’t get better just going to a camp or practice once or twice a week and stay on Facebook and Twitter the rest of the time

The good news is that every player in attendance is officially on my Girlz Prep Report MS Watch List, which means you are in my database and not only do I have my eyes on you, I will be looking for progression each time I see you play

In staying with the theme of the state playoffs which has been narrowed down to the Elite 8 in each region for each high school division, I decided to do a Ganon Baker Camp Elite 8 Tip Sheet. Not making the Elite 8 means absolutely nothing and at this age, the most important thing is to be in my database because once you’re there, the rest is up to you to perform and if you ask anyone that knows me and they are honest about it, they will tell you no one covers the area like I do. Also, I know I named nine players, so it’s a GPR 8

Keeping watching the blog, I will have mini stories on players popping up and remember to follow me on Facebook and Twitter

GB Reece and Lane

2018 KINDALYN REECE AND 2018 CIERRA LANE

2017

Keaton Sayers-5’10 forward-Anderson-Shilo- I had a chance to watch Sayers last season and she caught my eye almost instantly. She ran the floor and attacked the basket extremely well for her size, not to mention her ability to finish. Now I’m watching her knock down the midrange jumper consistently which is a big asset

Cierra Lane-5-7 guard-Pearland – At this age being athletic with a good strong body is a big plus but what’s also a plus is Lane’s ability to create and comprehension on the court. Not only could she score, she had to will to defend and that is big plus in itself and even better for her is the fact that she hasn’t peaked

Kindalyn Reece-5-9 guard-Willis-Long and athletic, that old phrase “her best basketball is ahead of her” works because she has the tools to be one of the top kids in her class. She can get to the basket anytime she wants and is a mismatch waiting to happen against smaller guards. Another asset is her strength and she showed that by nailing a half-court shot on her first try in one of the contests

Marissa Banfield-5-7 guard-Friendswood- Before you hear anyone saying remember Marissa’s name, use the search bar on my blog and website and you will see I have been impressed with this young lady for two years after watching her on a video. Last season I had a chance to see her on three separate occasions and she progressed and showed something extra each time. Her knowledge of the game exceeds her years and once she gets in attack mode watch out because she has the ability to take a game completely over

2018

Shae Routt-6-0 forward-Kempner- When your mom is a coach, certain things are going to stand out and believe me, this young lady has several assets at a young age that will make her on several next level short lists. She has skills like a guard, she’s strong and very athletic and she will probably grow another two to five inches, early prediction is she is a Top 100 candidate and I’m talking on a national level

2019

Kaylynne and Kayleigh Truong-5-6 guards-Jersey Village-I already have the perfect nickname for the Truong sisters, “The Twins”. Actually I didn’t give it to them but when everyone mentions the twins and they’re talking about players from this class and area, you automatically think of these young ladies. One is actually a shade taller however both caught my eye last season after I figured out I wasn’t seeing double, even they are double trouble. Two things they have that stand out, knowledge of the game and the lost art of being able to knock down the midrange jumper consistently and that is huge

2020

Caeli Taylor-4-10 guard-East Bernard- I’m going to have so much fun with this class because of television show that is also 20/20. Although my vision may not be the same as it once was, please excuse the typos, fortunately I can still see talent at a very a\young age. One play Taylor did caught my eye and it was a drive to the basket for a lay-up and she finished with contact. After that, this kid wanted the ball almost and you could see it in her eyes and at that age, she is way ahead of the game

Mariah Smith-5-0 guard-Booker T Washington-When you come all the way from Tulsa for a camp, you are coming for a reason and Smith definitely gave me a reason to keep watching her especially after finding out her age. Her ability to take defenders off the dribble was amazing, she actually won one of the contest doing just that but the simple fact that this young lady is strong, both physically and mentally as she understands a lot of stuff on the floor many players don’t at her age
