Eagles fly past Bobcats

Cy Falls Jas Green

JASMINE GREEN

When I think about surprise teams this season, Cy Falls has got to be on top of the list and by surprise, I mean in a way that has them in a position to reach the area F4 yet again should they do two things, stay healthy and win their district. With that being said, don’t be surprised if their district wins all of their first round playoff games no matter which four that might be.

Since the district has become so much of slugfest, why not think of it as boxing match and in round  8, they’ve all played eight games, you had a little bit of everything. Cy Lakes barely beating winless in district Cy Springs, Cy Creek losing to Cy Ranch in overtime and the game I watched, Cy Falls defeating Cy Fair 62-50

I’m sure many of the players who participated might think this was some sort of boxing match or something of that nature as both teams were in the bonus in the first period and several players from each team took hard fouls and had to come out of the game

Qay Cleveland has been the X factor since being cleared to play and I told her dad if she was a cornerback playing football she would be leading the city in interceptions and his response was she used to play football, now I get it because she anticipates as well as anyone in the city and has been getting to the rack effortlessly

Carol Willie and Erin Caldwell controlled the boards in the opening period, Willie wound up with a double double and if Cleveland is the X factor, those two will be the Y and Z because with three players in the starting lineup hitting the boards like they are, well I guess we’ll just have to wait and see

The youngsters again gave good minutes, Deja Craft and Kiara McElroy don’t understand that as freshmen they should be intimidated in these games and sophomore Cierra Mackey two long threes came at the most inopportune times during Cy Fair’s runs

Both teams put on pressure early, Falls opened up the second quarter with a 9-2 run before a Taylor McCowan three and led 26-21 at the half. An Angela Harris three pulled Fair within one, 30-29 but after that, Falls went on a 24-5 run and never looked back. Speaking of 24, #24, Ladaja Honore, came off the bench for Falls to give the Eagles solid minutes and when you can go to the bench and rest the bigs, oh boy!!!!!!

What am I missing? Well with the exception of Jasmine Green simply going off for 20 points, I guess nothing. Just about every time Falls needed a bucket, Green delivered and she was one of their most consistent  offensive players early in the season so when you bottle all of this up, there is no telling how high the Eagles will soar, by the way, their school is right off 290 and if you head west…………….
