Duncanville proves they are better than last year
ARIEL ATKINS AND TASIA FOMAN
Duncanville just proved everything I said about them was correct and to be honest it comes as no surprise that they won another state championship. I would have loved to see them play Pflugerville, as both would have been undefeated, however “The Fluge” lost two starters to knee injuries the week before during regionals, talk about bad breaks, but it probably wouldn’t have mattered because the Pantherettes simply kept getting better.
When I saw them back in November, I said they were playoff ready and ahead of the previous seasons team that lost only one game and the improvement I saw in not only the team, but several players including Antoina Robinson whose offense has been off the chain, you just never knew who was going to explode at any time. Against Clear Springs, Robinson and Tamara Washington joined Ariel Atkins and Kiara Perry in double figures while Robinson, Atkins and Perry duplicated the feat in the finals
Washington, Robinson (UALR) and Perry (SMU) will be missing from the starting line-up next season, all three are seniors. Perry was named MVP of the tournament; she and Atkins made the all-tournament team. As an added note, Atkins and Tasia Foman, both juniors, committed to the Texas after they won the championship. Foman by the way made all-tournament the previous season and she was also the high scorer in the championship game with 21 points, so you can tell that that the firepower can come from various places
