Duncanville even more impressive
If any team could beat Duncanville in the Sandra Meadows Classic and I mean beat them, it was Whitney Young. I saw Whitney Young on opening day defeat Duncanville’s JV but that was supposed to happen. Whitney Young is one of the top teams in the country and with seasoned veterans like they have, including a couple heading to Texas colleges, I knew how that would turn out. The next time I caught them was against Manvel, arguably the second best team in the state and after they just simply applied the heat against the R3 favorite turning a nine point halftime lead into a defensive nightmare for the Mavericks in the second half which had them score only eight points, including two in the final four minutes
To be honest, I thought the Lady Dolphins were going to take this one but I kept being reminded of something I’ve been saying for a long time, they didn’t have Ariel Atkins and if ever a player stepped up under pressure, it was not only Atkins but Tasia Foman as well who got the ball rolling, the other way, with an opening quarter of four steals. Watch Atkins change the ball from left to right for a basket in the PassThaBall video, this simply ignited the fans and more importantly the players as Whitney Young didn’t what hit em, I’m just keeping it real. That play changed the game and enabled the Pantherettes to outscore Whitney Young 32-12 the rest of the half
Here are the questions, will the streak of 89 reach triple digits and will they three-peat? I’ll look at all of the regions and break that down during the week but to be honest with you, don’t bet against them
