DFW Elite Houston Tryouts
This was a no-brainer for me because it was local, I had never visited Open Court Sports Complex, story on meeting the mastermind Angela Smith-Duncan later and I hadn’t chopped it up with DFW Elite director Corey Hegwood or 17U EYBL head coach Zoderick Green in a minute. I also had a chance to meet Prep Girls Hoops Regional Event Director Keydrick Barlow and running into my guys Jeff and Hopgood was just icing on the cake, at least for me but the standouts I’m choosing from the NO-CONTACT tryouts lit the candles
2022
Savannah Velazquez-5’2 PG (George Ranch) the quick point guard showed she could create her shot as well as mix it up using a variety of moves and dropping the floater
2023
Bailey Featherston-5’10 SG/SF (Round Rock) this young lady left me speechless a few months ago, I’m still not saying much but she will be added to PGH Top 100 next week when I drop the 2023 update. She’s a #THROWBACK player that simply goes hard, that midrange is hard to deal with
Kahlayn Barnes-5’8 SG (Lamar) I added her to Top 100 after seeing her in a fall league at TSU, I’m that good and I knew what she was going to be and her athleticism, as well as explosiveness all, stood out, so did her jumper
Krislyn Biscette-5’7 SG (Shadow Creek) when you have a combined following of over not 1 but 2 million followers on social media, that in itself speaks volumes about her off the court talent yet she showed could do it on the court dropping a variety of shots from a variety of spots, plenty of upside
Imani McCray-5’5 CG (Salt and Light Homeschool) put on a show a couple of weeks ago at the NCHBC District Tournament yet her poise on the court, under pressure, as well as her being vocal was good to see against more competitive players. Her jumper is solid, she can score off the dribble
2024
Madison Bob-5’7 SG (Hightower) changed her hair and fooled me until I saw her dad, no boudin again yet she showed a variety of seasonings she’s added since I last saw her and how can I put this, the ROUX is RIGHT, she was dropping the jumper with ease, quick release showing the catch and shoot
Shunteria Anumele-5’9 CG (Travis) when you understand how to score consistently off the dribble, that’s big and with an abundance of fakes including the stutter to get players leaning, I love that but she elevates strongly and has some solid range from BTA, the mid is smooth as well
Kimora Lopez-5’10 SF (Fulshear) game just continues to develop to her being a solid all-around player. I love her movement on both ends, she can score strongly using her powerful frame but the pull-up is becoming harder to deal with and many will fold their hands trying to guard her
2025
Ruke Ogbevire-5’7 CG (Fulshear) is just one of those SWB players, that’s the speed with the ball, and I’m talking under control so her court vision, her explosive first step in the open court or the set, and that pull-up which includes the stop and pop jumper going full speed, check, double-check and triple-check
