DFW 2017 group is no joke
BREAH POWELL
With Baylor and Stanford making early exits in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, my bracket is in shambles however for the most part, that’s not a bad thing and it’s good for the game. That also shows that I can’t consider myself an expert on picking Final Fours however I do consider my ability to pick can’t miss players at an early age as good as anyone else or as I like to say in my own way “I ain’t been wrong yet”
The 2017 group of DFW Elite players going under DFW Swift or DFW Scholly Me have had a lot of GPR ink before they enter high school but it’s well deserved and they’ve made impacts in so many ways on the floor that they deserved their own special “Tip Sheet”
Stephanie Jackson, a 5’8 guard from McKinney TX and Laura Daulton, 6’2 post from Oak Ridge, are new additions to the team and a couple I’ll have my eyes on in the future however on this star studded team, there was no team let down when they stepped on the court
One thing is for certain, they all are on a collision course with the next level, how high is up to them. Deauzya Richards and Alexis Morris have not only national Top 100 recognition possibilities but MDAA as well, but others are very, very close
Deauzya Richards-5’10 guard-Katy TX
The first time I saw this young lady she caught my eye and it wasn’t because of her orange shoes. The only thing I was worried about in her game was would she be able to take the physicality and after watching at the Cy Fair Evaluation Camp and BigTyme Fall Finish, that question has been answered and instead of her worrying about the “big girls” they need to be worried about her
Alexis Morris-5’6 guard, Beaumont TX
I haven’t thought of a smooth nickname for Morris but she sort of reminds of cross between AJ Alix and Brooke McCarty at an early age. Her ability to take over games is uncanny for her age, not mention being able to get her star studded teammates involved. The poise she considers to show on the court is something I’ve seen in very few at this age
Breah Powell-5’6 guard, McKinney TX
Powell was one of the first to make my Fullcourt.com Tip Sheet and I started her write-up with this “One of my sayings is that it’s not what you do it’s who you do it against, and for Powell, this was certainly the case.” Nothing has changed as she can score, defend and handle the ball with ease, not to mention also putting up high school numbers and times in track already
Alexandria Crain-5’8 guard, McKinney TX
Crain just keeps getting better each time I see her and I love watching players add something to her game. My initial sighting at last year’s Big State Flava told me this young lady was someone to watch but at the BigTyme Fall Finish a few weeks later, she stood out among all the stars as she also showed she could score at will against just about anyone
Kayla Owens-6’0 forward-Houston TX
Long, raw and explosive is what I saw in Owens almost a year ago at the Houston Insiders Basketball Classic however you can tell, wait, I can tell when someone has been working and at the Young Guns Camp, she simply went off and I asked Owens her name. She responded “coach you don’t remember me?” That won’t happen as again and I may call her KO because her game is truly becoming a knockout
Zarielle Green-5’10 guard-Dallas TX
Long and athletic, not to mention the only 2018 player in the mix, she has much more than a bright future. Watching her develop on the floor has been a pleasure and you can tell she will continue to get better because she not only wants it, but she gets it. She can take a player off the dribble or nail the midrange jumper with ease and that along with her ability to read defense gives her an A plus in Open Court 101.
This is what I said about Jade Williams who made the Fullcourt.com March Fest Tip Sheet and Arianna Whitfield gets the blog all to herself
