Dekaney Picks Up Number 40

Dekaney is making its first appearance at the state tournament after being in existence only five years and like their boy’s football team did this year; they are playing for the 5A Championship. The Wildcats jumped out to a double digit lead in the first quarter and coasted to a 50-35 victory over San Antonio Reagan. Dekaney (40-1) will play Duncanville (39-1) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday for the 5A title.

Reagan tried to make a comeback in the final quarter as they came out and scored the first seven points and cut the lead to 39-31 but that was as close as they could get. Alexis Durley scored 13 points for Dekaney while Shunta Nevitt added nine points and seven rebounds. Sabrina Berry just missed a double-double for Reagan as she finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for Reagan who on the evening made only 13 of their 56 field goal attempts
