Dallas Spring Shootout Tip Sheet
‘18 ADDISON RYAN
The Dallas Spring Shootout had a variety of players from different classes that are capable of playing at the next level and it seems like that’s happening at each event I’ve covered. You’re always going to have the “can’t miss” player’s class after class but after those players have been identified, the gap shrinks tremendously and certain intangibles kick in. This event also was deep in young talent and again, Texas 2017 and 2018 are following 2016 as huge classes with a variety of players who are going to have immediate impacts on not only their high school but college teams as well. The DSS which was hosted by Prime Time also shows that Prime Time is becoming a player as far as talented young ladies showcasing their skills across not only Texas but other states as well. My eyes were opened at last season’s Prime Time Nationals because I don’t care about the score, I’m looking for talent to help college program. I picked ten players for my DSS Tip Sheet and it could have been as many as 20 others but here are my picks
2014
Ladresha Dillard-5’11 forward/post-Texas Heat Millwood
Dillard is a throwback player that simply battles you on every possession in the paint. She has good hands and footwork and can score on players taller than her in the paint. She has the ability to attack the rim from 10 feet and score and also post up smaller players in the paint. She has to be running on solar energy because she doesn’t stop
2015
Chelsea Warren-6’0 forward/post-Dallas Stars
I kept looking at Warren because I remembered her as a freshman at DeSoto and I was sold on her then. She has taken her game to another level since the first time I saw her play, very active all over the floor and finishes almost at will once she has the ball in the paint. She’s strong and can take punishment on one end while also being able to deliver it on the other
Bria Degrate-5’8 guard-Texas The Dream
Talk about playing taller than listed, Degrates length and athleticism have her doing things like a 6’0 player. She can jump, wait she explodes when she jumps and is relentless going to the basket. She rebounds on both ends extremely well for her size and has a monster first step. Didn’t see her shoot the midrange much but the ones she took were either in or in the vicinity
2016
Ashley Hayes-5’6 point guard-FM Thunder
I liked Hayes a lot when I saw her a couple of weeks ago and the thing that keeps me impressed is that she knows how to get her team going and calm them down when needed, signs of a good point guard. I knew she was athletic and could get to the rim but I didn’t realize how well she could shoot outside. She sees the floor and knows how to set her teammates up for easy baskets
Victoria George-5’10 post-DFW Bevos
George has an impressive physique and she caught my eye almost instantly as she wrestled the ball away from larger opponents. That in itself gives you an idea of her strength and it also gives opponents an idea on what they’re in for. She has a nice touch when she faces the basket and is an absolute beast in the paint as she can score and rebound on both ends
2017
Vivian Gray-5’9 guard-Argyle
She blended in nicely with the high school girls and when I was she was a ’17, there was no question on who would make the tip sheet. She’s really good now and her best basketball is in front of her. She can score down low, off the dribble and from the outside but what I like even more is that she’s always moving and she understands the game at a young age
Rebecca Lescay-5’7 guard-Texas Preps Elite 2017
Talk about huge upside; take your pick on this team because these young ladies have something you can’t teach. Lescay doesn’t realize how good she is right now but it’s going to click and I saw glimpses of it flickering. She handles the ball well, she shoots the ball well and she knows how to score. Her wingspan makes her appear to be playing taller than she is and I’ talking both ends
2018
Addison Ryan-5’6 guard-H4H Texas Fire
I thought Ryan was an unknown freshman I’d be adding to the talented class as she was performing a little magic in the top division but after finding out she was an’18, the real magic will come later. She can handle it, shoot it and pass it and I’m talking about against the big girls. She has plenty of upside and whatever she’s missing, she has one thing I wish I could call back, time
Tatum Veitenheimer-5’7 guard-Texas Elite Adidas 2017
I probably can’t pronounce her name so I’ll call her TV for more than one reason because she’ll be playing on it once she graduates. I love players who anticipate, she has a tracking device planted somewhere on the ball because she was everywhere it was and coming up with steals in bunches. It doesn’t stop there because she can shoot the long ball or get the rebound and push it the length of the floor for baskets.
