Cy Ranch makes statement at SBISD
The Spring Branch ISD Tournament showed me one thing, Deauzya Richards was correct; they are a team that could possibly get out of here. I never disagreed with that, they had a cance to do it last season and they are one of around five to eight teams that could get hot at the right time and in a one game playoff, well if you remember Elsik, you know exactly what I’m talking about. The Mustangs were head and shoulders above everyone in the tournament; they were clicking on all cylinders and are ready to defend their Fort Bend Tournament title just like they did in this one. Richards and Sydney Coleman filled the lanes nicely for Cienna Rivera, all three made all tournament, Rivera was the MVP. Rachel Tapps and Taylor Hunter are two of the area’s top 2016 players; both were valuable assets while Arrianna Whitfield is one of the top freshmen, well like Richards.
Cy Falls has added Jae Branch to its arsenal of young talent; she adds another dimension to the team. Qay Cleveland put up some numbers in a couple of games and the inside presence of Ashley Caldwell and Katie Najvar. Caldwell is on track to be the best post to have played at Falls and a healthy Najvar gives a big body on the inside. Cierra Mackey is a capable scorer as well as Kiarra McElroy who came up huge down the stretch last year for the Eagles in her freshman season. Jasmine Green is always steady and under control and when you’re running the one in the areas toughest district, that’s huge, Green and Najvar made the all-tournament team
Klein Forest was shorthanded much of the tournament, Ebony Parker (concussion) and Regina Scott (severe sprain) didn’t play and surprisingly they hung in there with Cy Falls and before you think no way, well they have Ekiyah Gray who carried the offense but when she went out during the final three minutes with leg cramps, that was a done deal. Gray made the all-tournament team. Kempner looked good and improved; Tierra Matthews is just simply developing into a beast. Ann Nwosah has been a beast from the moment I saw her as a freshmen for Lamar Consolidated, both of them made the all-tournament team as well as Jessie Ustick (Memorial) and Brittany Lopez (Spring Woods)
